Meet Liz Borden

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liz Borden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Liz below.

Liz , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I am lucky because I have many creative outlets. I am a musician, a photographer, an actor, a writer and a few other art outlets. I am someone that needs to be creative at all times. If I am feeling uninspired I turn to something new. I am open to trying new creative paths. Even if it’s something that seems silly to some people. For example painting rocks. Hey it’s a creative expression.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an actor, musician, singer, songwriter, producer, videographer, music manager, photographer and writer. I have been performing professionally since I was a teenager. I have appeared in plays, television and music videos. I have completed four films with a new one to be released soon. I am also known for the bands Lizzie Borden and The Axes, Lava Beat, The Finch Family, The Liz Borden Band and a long solo career. I have released nine albums winning several music awards including The Hollywood Music in Media(HMMA) award for producing the music to an Americana/Folk/Acoustic video in 2017. I was inducted into the New England Music Hall Of Fame in 2023. My songs are currently featured in television shows, commercials and movies. I also write songs for other artists. I have four books I wrote on Amazon. I am a professional photographer. I produce concerts and I have six shows so far in 2024 including shows under the name, Sweet Baby Jai Presents / The Sunset Music Festival.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities I feel have been most impactful, I feel are resilience, the desire to learn and improve and in for the long game. My advice is to remember why you started the journey, the project, the idea. Learn everything you can about what you are doing and follow it through no matter how frustrating and hard it is. Try to find so joy and grace in what you do.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
There hasn’t been one person. There have been many in my life. The people that have embraced me in my life,  the list is long.  People that have helped me grow up.. My band and crew members throughout the years. Friends, I wouldn’t make it without them. They are family to me. I can’t just list a couple. They know who they are. They say it takes a village. It took a city to raise me! The people that have given me a hard time in my life. They have made me try harder. People that have been honest in my life. You can’t do this life thing alone. Always surround yourself with good people. Get rid of those that don’t want what’s best for you and that don’t want you to succeed.
