We recently connected with Stephen Abdul and have shared our conversation below.
Stephen, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I would have to say that I overcame this progressively but effectively. For years as a kid, I was taunted and ridiculed for the clothes that I wore and the life that I lived. Even through out high school, I was plagues by the temptation of seeking to be someone that I know I was not. As I got older and within the last 4 months, I really feel like I have truly discovered the real Steph. With my adaptation of western wear and fashion and even the adjustment of my lifestyle that leans towards more of a simplistic style and a genuine avenue of life, I can honestly say I am actually happy and looking to the future with a smile
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Ever since I graduated from college, I have been in the field of electrical engineering. I work for a very large company called Schneider Electric, and I love every ounce of what I do. I also all my own business as a professional videographer, and I primarily cater to weddings, corporate events, and even personalized Contant, such as Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms. I am originally from Chicago and I have been living in the DFW area for five years now. My main focus recently has been on the integration of western fashion and influencing into my social media something that I never thought that I would be into. I’ve always held myself to be that guy that never really dove headfirst into social media, but ever cents the interactions, and the overall feedback has been exponentially. Great, it is giving me the boost of confidence I need it in addition, to the confidence that wearing western wear gives me that propels me for it to accomplish higher and even more intricate goals.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on the last five years of my adult life, three qualities that I say, aided me in my adult life were perseverance, transparency, and overall self integrity. Having skills such is proper communication, public relativity, technological skills, and the tenacity to continue to expand my knowledge have all granted me the opportunity to be a better person day in and day out. If I were to be able to give advice to someone who is starting out their journey and learning about who they really are, and developing into the person that they will be for the rest of their lives, I would have to say to be true to yourself and remember that no matter the situation whether it be big or small, the mercy and love, the God gives us is far greater and more powerful than any obstacle that will get in your way.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The main challenge that I currently face in this moment is dealing with self denial in a variety of aspects, where I don’t feel adequate enough. That comes from the lack of confidence as a child in early adulthood but, in recent times has blossomed into something more than I could’ve ever expected it to be.
