Meet Kate Lindsay

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kate Lindsay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kate , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
It has always been in my nature to be generous in both my personal and business life. Generosity with my time, my ideas and physical gestures. From a business perspective, some might advise against this approach, but I have never felt at a loss from giving. Yes, there are always misguided folks in life and business who haven’t discovered the gift of generosity and choose to operate from a position of self-interest. Don’t let them blow out your flame.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I grew up in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains among horses, dogs and pocket pets I fondly considered friends. When I was 7 I took painting lessons from a local artist and when I was a young adult I made my way to Bozeman to attend art school at MSU.

A life long lover of animals, with a particular penchant for my childhood palomino pony, Puddin, I began a creative business, The Pretty Palomino, which has allowed me to explore many different artistic careers from interior design to narrative film production design.

My current family home at the base of the crazy mountains in central Montana, surrounded by cattle, horse and sheep ranches have inspired my most recent found ranch wire art sculptures and folk art paintings and pottery.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Find people who truly inspire you. The people who are doing the things you also love and doing them well. Ask them to take you under their wing. This requires extra work on your end, and a good and open attitude. Stay curious and say yes to opportunities, you never know until you try. Also, if you ‘LIKE IT’, that’s all that matters. Make it. Buy it. Make it your own.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Looking back (with heartfelt emotion ), every single great art teacher I had from elementary school through university saw something in me and supported me to the best of their ability, whether I embraced that support or not, and were the catalysts for the discovery of the most honored creative parts that make me, me. God bless the art teachers!
