Meet Tamela Todd

We were lucky to catch up with Tamela Todd recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tamela , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism stems from a combination of personal experience, professional expertise, and a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of community and human potential.

As a mental health coach, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing individuals overcome tremendous challenges and emerge stronger, more resilient, and happier. This firsthand experience has instilled in me a profound sense of hope and optimism in the human capacity for growth and healing.

Similarly, as a business consultant, I’ve worked with diverse clients facing various obstacles in their entrepreneurial journeys. Through collaborative problem-solving and strategic planning, I’ve seen businesses thrive and innovate, even in the face of adversity. This has reinforced my belief in the power of vision, resilience, and adaptability to drive positive change.

Furthermore, my decision to open a book bar in the heart of Detroit is rooted in my unwavering optimism for the city’s future. Detroit is a place brimming with untapped potential, creativity, and resilience. By creating a space where people can gather, connect, and engage with literature, I aim to contribute to the city’s cultural revitalization and foster a sense of community pride.

In essence, my optimism is fueled by a deep-seated belief in the inherent strength and potential of individuals and communities to overcome challenges, pursue their passions, and create meaningful change. It is this belief that drives me to approach every endeavor with enthusiasm, determination, and a steadfast commitment to making a positive impact.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Absolutely! As a mental health coach, business consultant, and the proud owner of a book bar in Detroit, my work revolves around fostering personal growth, entrepreneurial success, and community engagement.

What excites me most about what I do is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Whether it’s guiding someone through a mental health journey, helping a business thrive, or providing a welcoming space for book lovers to connect, every interaction is an opportunity to inspire and uplift others.

What sets my brand apart is its holistic approach to well-being and community building. At the book bar, we don’t just sell books; we curate experiences that celebrate literature, creativity, and human connection. From author readings and book clubs to workshops and community events, our space is designed to spark conversation, foster creativity, and cultivate a sense of belonging.

As for what’s new, we’re constantly expanding our offerings to better serve our community. I am working on a series of wellness workshops aimed at promoting mental health and self-care practices. Additionally, we’re exploring partnerships with local artists and authors to showcase their work in our space, further enriching the cultural tapestry of Detroit.

In essence, my work is about more than just business; it’s about building a brighter, more connected future for our community. And as we continue to grow and evolve, I’m excited to see the positive impact we can make together.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that have been crucial in my journey are resilience, empathy, and continuous learning.

Resilience has helped me bounce back from setbacks, adapt to change, and keep moving forward. My advice for those starting out is to embrace failure as a chance to grow and maintain a positive mindset.

Empathy has guided my interactions, fostering meaningful connections and collaboration. Early on, practice active listening, understanding others’ perspectives, and approaching situations with kindness.

Continuous learning has propelled me forward, ensuring I stay adaptable and innovative. Seek opportunities for growth, whether through education, mentorship, or hands-on experience.

For those beginning their journey, remember to cultivate resilience, nurture empathy, and embrace continuous learning. These qualities will guide you through challenges and empower you to succeed.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
YESSS “WE SHOULD ALL BE MILLIONAIRES” by Rachel Rodgers, “Goals!” by Zig Ziglar, and “Atomic Habits” by James Clear have each profoundly influenced my journey.

From Rodgers’ book, I learned to challenge limiting beliefs about wealth and embrace an abundance mindset. Ziglar’s work emphasized the importance of setting clear, SMART goals and staying persistent. Clear’s insights on habit formation taught me the power of small, consistent actions in achieving long-term success.

In essence, these books have equipped me with practical tools and mindset shifts necessary for personal and professional growth, empowering me to pursue my goals with clarity and determination.
