Meet Carolina Mejias

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carolina Mejias a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Since a kid I always being optimism and saw the bright side of every moment and story, because there is the good part, even if is happening what we think we don’t want or isn’t good for us is actually working in our favor and good for us in that moment, we’ll learn something from that, is something that I had to keep working on, I feel like when you grow up keep the optimism alive every moment become a little more challenging, bu with consistency works, and in the end living in that way, feels better.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Carolina, I being working as a model for 12 years, originally from Canary Islands, living in NYC, just signed with Ford Models, so is a new begging in my career and feels good, a refresh, ready for all the new to come. I’m also a song writer, started writing poetry for a long time and one day decided to turn that poetry in music, since being a kid I being connect to music with my brother playing electric guitar, in school had a band for some time, then when I moved to nyc music started to follow me everywhere, started to meet people from the music industry and decided to release some singles and an ep album. 1 year ago I did a short movie as the lead actress and got nominated in 9 festivals nacional and international, and got nominated in one of them as the best actress, so was something “new” because I did some theatre in school, but first time doing a short movie, is something that I’m also contemplating and would like to keep expanding. Right now I’m with new projects and creating new things that I’ll share soon!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ll say patience, courage and being present. In my journey as a model/artist, I realized that patience is something that I had to work on and once I learn how to really be patience things felt better, we tend to want everything quick right now in this moment, and most of the time the wait is for something better or for you to clear your mind for what is about to come. Courage to do and jump in to what you really want to do, with out thinking what they’ll say or the fear stopping you, and to keep going no matter what happen. Being present is to really live what’s in front of you, to enjoy every second of the experience that you’re having, to release anything that is no good for you and be fully there in the moment, something that I keep working and getting better, and truly makes a difference in my life.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Life can be sometimes overwhelmed, isn’t linear and when things are going great something might happen, I used to react more than normal, and I realized that wasn’t helping. So I started my journey with meditation, I meditate (or I try) every day first thing in the morning, I take my time to start the day like that, to put my mind and heart in the right place for start the day and really is being super helpful, I recommend always meditation, even to kids, is a good tool and once you start is hard to stop because you can see the benefits, the only thing that we can’t find solution is death and some illnesses, so being here and going through some challenges in life is part of living.
