Meet Fred Tisdale

We recently connected with Fred Tisdale and have shared our conversation below.

Fred, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
For me, I found my purpose by chasing every dream or feeling that came to mind. I was one who thought I wanted to work the same job til I retired and not bounce from job to job because it seemed like a bad thing. But I noticed middle school Fred high school Fred, and even college Fred had different goals all in a 10 year span. For me saving money and exercise have been apart of me from the early years. After attempting college, I was able to get a job in Finance. Which i really enjoyed at the time. All the while I was still working out. In finance, if those quotas aren’t met by the last week/day of the month it means we had to work late. When I would work late I would get upset that I was missing my favorite classes with my favorite peeps. It was then that I knew where I truly wanted to be. My passion was visible. Everyone knew I loved health & fitness. I love the impact it had on others. I love to see how they felt after a workout & I knew that hour of class was everything we all needed regardless if our day was stressful or not.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m more of a group exercise instructor in my field. I lead small group classes. I’ve taught TurboKick Boxing, Nike Training Camp, & Step Aerobics classes to name a few. I currently teach an Olympic weightlifting class, a cycle class, and I also lead a yoga class.

The most exciting part is getting them pumped up and excited. I’m driven by people and music. We’ve labeled ourselves Flashmob, and what i can see is we are the most welcoming group of people & our group looks like everyone else. We are diverse, of all ages and fitness levels, and fun people to be around in the gym and outside of the gym.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me the most impactful part of my journey was believing in myself enough to take a leap of faith into what I was truly passionate about. Thats the hardest, yet most rewarding part. So many people tell us ahead of time of how great we are or how great we are doing & what they see in us; however, people also tell us opposite and it sometimes makes us think we aren’t ready. So having faith in what we truly desire and chasing that dream wholeheartedly despite what you think it may look like and regardless of what others think.

Also, being hard worker. I knew leaving corporate america would be hard work, but i’ve been working hard all my life so I felt I would definitely keep that same energy as I pursued my own passion for health and fitness.

Also, having that support group that’s headed in the same direction. We don’t all think alike and that’s okay. Sharing your dreams and ideas with the wrong people can hinder you. You make think you’re headed in the wrong direction or made the wrong decision. So definitely being surrounded with like minded individuals.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m overwhelmed I tried to step back and look at whats causing it. It usually the fact that my brain has 1000 ideas and so does my to do list. Exercise, yoga specifically, truly grounds me. Both of these gives me time with myself and away from the busy mind. Yoga more so because you’re truly being one with yourself. You sit quietly with your thoughts, then you start to work on your breath and then movement comes into your practice all while having stillness in your mind/thoughts. It’s so refreshing to be able to step back into the chaos after a workout or practicing yoga to be able to prioritize what’s important and needs to be done first, second or last.
