We caught up with the brilliant and insightful YEA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

YEA, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I cultivated my confidence and self-esteem through personal growth and reflection. There was a time when I constantly sought validation from others, but I soon realized it led me nowhere. Now, I embrace self-love and trust my own instincts and aspirations. I see life as a personal journey, and I’ve learned not to rely on external validation from others. I embrace what makes me different.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am YEA, and it would be an honor to be featured on your platform, Bold Journey. Growing up in middle Georgia presented limited options for an artist and poet like myself. While other cities thrived in artistic renaissances, my hometown faced an artistic drought. Despite the challenges, I remained resolute in perfecting my craft and sharing my music with the world.

Since my high school days, I’ve worked diligently with the resources available, collaborating with fellow students, local radio stations, and my school’s spirit team. After graduation, I embarked on a journey in the military (Army), all the while keeping my pen moving. Through my service to this country, I’ve expanded my reach, bringing my unique sound from Georgia to Texas and North Carolina.

My music, characterized by a grungy, smooth, rhythmic vibe, traverses genres like pop, R&B, Neo-Soul, and Trap. I take pride in my single “Shook,” which garnered attention on Shade 45, Dash Radio, Sirius XM, and even caught the ears of Sway in the Morning. In January 2023, I released a collection of 8 singles exploring the diverse sounds of House, New York Drill, and R&B. Then, in December 2024, I unveiled an album titled “Life of the Party,” featuring elements of Afrobeat, Pop, Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, and House.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three pivotal qualities that have profoundly shaped my journey are self-awareness, self-acceptance, and resilience. Embracing self-awareness has empowered me to remain steadfast in my vision, even when it diverges from conventional paths. Trusting my instincts and pursuing my goals, regardless of external influences, has been instrumental in my progress.

Self-acceptance has been key in overcoming the fear of appearing vulnerable or foolish. It allowed me to embrace authenticity and take risks without hesitation. Meanwhile, resilience has been my guiding light during setbacks, teaching me to bounce back stronger and keep pushing forward despite challenges.

On this musical journey, it’s imperative not to shy away from showcasing your efforts. Every step, whether smooth or rough, contributes to artistic growth. Embrace the process, savor each moment, and absorb knowledge along the way. Trust that everything unfolds as it should, leading you precisely where you need to be.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My father imparted confidence in me through his “my way or the highway” mentality, teaching me the importance of prioritizing self-love in a way that may seem selfish to others. He instilled in me the understanding that I am the master of my own life and happiness. Despite his firm stance, he made it clear that I could always confide in him and rely on him for support—a true parent figure.

On the other hand, my mother is a natural-born hustler, capable of tackling any challenge thrown her way. She embodies courage and faith, showing me that change for the better is always possible. She taught me the value of patience and persistence, emphasizing the importance of crafting a solid plan to reach my desired destination in life.
