Meet Jaslean Ahuja-Michals

We were lucky to catch up with Jaslean Ahuja-Michals recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jaslean, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence and self esteem is not something you are born with, it is something you develop from within. I really started to gain my confidence when there were situations that I didn’t stand up for myself and really regretted it, looking back. I told myself as I grew older that I would ALWAYS stand up for myself or my loved ones moving forward, and I would never settle or let people walk over me. I deeply understand that everybody is facing some sort of battle. When you come across people with the mindset of compassion and empathy…. everything changes. When you understand that people who act angry or grumpy are just deep down insecure you tend to realize how much love people need in this world. I have strongly realized in my profession in the medical field you have to be confident. Patients cannot trust their doctor if the doctor comes across unaware and unconfident. I am a very bubbly, enthusiastic, and positive person because I know things workout for the best when I FEEL my best. Not to mention you have the ability everyday to change somebody’s perspective on humanity- and that there are good and genuine people in this world who still care. Having the confidence to show up and provide love and compassion to a world where people need it is my ultimate goal.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I believe humans are meant to be multifaceted, it just makes life more fun! Professionally I am a clinical audiologist. An audiologist is a clinician who specializes in hearing loss, tinnitus, and the associated risks of cognitive decline and dementia that comes with it. I went to the University of the Pacific in San Francisco to receive my Doctorate in Audiology. Although it was an extremely tough 2 years I am so incredibly grateful that I stuck with it. My job has provided the ability to enhance patients life through better hearing! On my journey to becoming an audiologist I got to live in San Francisco and Santa Barbara, met my husband, my best friend, and land a job back home here in Arizona at a wonderful clinic called “Hearing and Brain Centers of America”. On a personal level I am a huge advocate for natural wellness, mental health, and intuitive living. I started my own health and wellness page on instagram called “curatingcures”. My Instagram page ranges from natural remedies for everyday health issues, to mental health support and guidance. I truly believe my souls purpose is to help people live a more natural, happier, and intuitive lifestyle. If you are somebody who wants positive content alongside natural healthy resources in their life- my page is perfect for you and welcomes you.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe the most important skills professionally and personally that I have learned are 1) never settle for anything less than what you deserve. 2) Be confident and compassionate 3) You are your harshest critic so be kind to yourself and learn to down the volume of your inner critic.

In a world where we may feel constantly judged, the reality is that we are our worst critic. When you realize that everybody is just trying to survive and live a happy life you realize what matters and what doesnt. You begin to realize you should only allow relationships where you help each other become better people, and you will only take jobs that provide the life or salary that you know you are worth and know you deserve. I also learned that you must speak up and advocate for yourself. When you start to become complacent whether its in relationships or your job, the only person you are hurting is yourself.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth is practicing neutrality, trusting in the universe, and advocating for myself by putting myself and my priorities first. We were born to believe that prioritizing time for ourselves is selfish, when really focusing on ourselves allows us to be the best versions in our jobs, personal life, and in our relationships. Whenever I feel stressed or notice a shift in my mood I immediately do something that calms and grounds me. This could look like doing a workout, reading a good book, or going to a sound healing class. Something else I’ve really worked on is surrendering and trusting that the universe always has my back for my greater good. We so badly want to know the outcome of our future but that takes away from the peace of our present moment. I’m really working on not living in the past or the future, and simply just living!
