Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to SUE MCGARVIE. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
SUE, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Having done radio for over 15 years with a topic not everyone agrees with I’ve gotten used to marching to my own drum. I really don’t worry about what other people think. I believe kindness matters and if I hang onto the end result of what I’m trying to achieve everything quiets down.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I believe that the quality of your life is the quality of your relationships. I’ve spent my career talking about connecting with great love and finding your people/person.
I also believe that loneliness kills. Over40CONNECT is a community that changes lives. We run amazing events, help people find love, teach people the skills to date and successfully find love in ways they hadn’t previously.
Our Over40CONNECT.com links to our live events with daily videos that coach you through the maze of post-pandemic dating, allows people to congregate by interests all the while keeping things local, vetted and authentic.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My superpowers are that I read the room well, I’m an outstanding matchmaker, and I am inclusive in encouraging everyone I meet to live their best lives.
Leadership is encouraging others to join you on a journey and communicating your mission clearly.
My advice would be to stop worrying about what others think of you and follow your passion. It’s going to be hard. You need to cultivate a tribe of people that support each other along the way. Find mentors. Set up mastermind groups. And don’t be afraid to step off the path of convention.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love to collaborate. My audience is anyone frustrated by the dating apps and are ready to try something different. Because conventional online dating is broken and people are floundering.
My group changes lives. It’s my contribution to the planet is to help everyone find a place and connections. I’m looking to build an advisory board and team of people with skills to help move our hybrid company (in real life and with an amazing ap) and change the way we all date.
