Meet Asia B.

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Asia B. . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Asia B. , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
That’s a tough one honestly because I have never been ask that before.

I have learned to overcome sometimes being the only person in a room that looks like me by introducing myself and standing out .

Being a black women sometimes at event has
made feel to have a reason to stand out in the
most creative way and to be confident.

I am proud of that and I have succeeded in the most amazing way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi , I am Asia B. I am from Brooklyn NY

I am full time Sweet and savory chef . recipe developer , cookbook author , food consultant and storyteller . I also have a food and lifestyle brand called Grandma Edna’s. I have been in the food industry for 10 years , I have tried everything when it comes to being in the culinary world , pastry Chef , line cook, caterer , worked in fast past restaurant and cafe etc.

In 2014 While in college I decided to take a leap of faith on being a entrepreneur. Since then I have never looked back . I have a love and passion for food and the art of it that can not be explained . It just comes natural for for me , over the years I have curated and done food pop shops with small and big brands . I have done it all .

I have also put on dinner parties such rebranding my company as Chef Asia B. storytelling my love for southern soul food cuisine. The most recent new brand and project I launched back in spring of 2023 is Grandma Edna’s , it’s my food and lifestyle brand , Our first food product we launched with Grandma Edna’s is our honey butter with a hit of sea salt with it. So it has a sweet and savory taste to it , it’s light and fluffy whipped butter that can be cooked and baked with any foods. My new project that I am working on at the moment is opening up my first Soul Food pop up restaurant in the NY/NJ area . this is going to be amazing pop up restaurant experience.

I am curating my love and creativity for soul food cuisine. The history and culture behind soul food means a lot to me and our heritage. stay tune for what’s to come .

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey the skills that were impactful to me was , learning how pivot when I needed to , always making sure I had a back up plan if the first one did not work out and also learning to ask for help . I also had to learn how to leave my ego at the door, willing to let people step in to help because I don’t know everything .

The best advice I can give someone embarking on this new journey is go after everything you set out to do , go for it and if it doesn’t go as plan keep going ,build a great trust worthy team and do not be afraid to ask for help.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The one challenge I am currently facing is trying to get into food and lifestyle content creating in the social media.
