Meet Lorenia Henriquez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lorenia Henriquez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lorenia, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
My mom always taught me that it is better to take the risk and possibly fail than regret not taking the risk at all. Owning a business in whatever field you choose is a risk that should be taken after a good amount of research and soul searching, and that doesn’t end once you start the company; it’s a constant self-reflective ritual asking yourself if this journey still feels aligned with your purpose or not.

Evolving personally and professionally is something that happens regardless of whether you notice it or not. That evolution will constantly ask you if staying complacent is what is needed or if another risk should be taken to achieve your goals.

I developed my ability to take risks from learning from the previous times I took risks, regardless of the outcomes. I focus on the fact that I took the risks and believed in the decision no matter the result.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Lorenia Henriquez, a Dominican entrepreneur based in New York, established Luni Style in 2013, drawing from her expertise in Fashion Design and Cultural Anthropology. Her passion for both organic and inorganic materials shapes her alchemic jewelry creations. Additionally, she co-founded and creatively directed Nomad Bazaar, a nomadic artist market in NYC, leveraging her experience as a vendor to foster a supportive community of small business owners.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three skills that were most impactful in my journey so far have been meditation, community and journaling.

Meditation has been part of my life since I was a teenager; it has been a practice that always keeps me grounded and present at times when my life hasn’t reflected that.

I am extremely grateful for the community that I have built over my adult years. Being in the community has given me the support and strength to continue following my dreams, fulfilling my goals, and living my purpose. Within the last 10 years of my career, I have met an amazing group of female entrepreneurs who have nourished my heart and soul. Where listening and support comes first, and competition is never out of the equation.

I have been journaling since I was a young child. As I got older, I learned the spiritual significance of journaling and how important it is to heal. Expressing yourself on paper helps release your emotions from your brain to the universe. It has been an essential necessity for my mental and emotional health and my professional journey.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always open to collaboration; it’s an amazing way to build community and learn from other fellow creatives.

My ideal collaborator is a person or brand that is open to brainstorming ways to collaborate and create beautiful things.
