Meet David Ifediba

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Ifediba a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi David, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in both my parents’ guidance and the rich tapestry of Nigerian culture. In Nigeria, the phrase “Naija no dey carry last” embodies the ethos of never accepting defeat, urging us to continually strive for excellence and success. This cultural maxim instills within us the drive to rise above challenges and become the best versions of ourselves. Upon immigrating to America at a young age, I bore witness to the tremendous sacrifices my parents made to provide a better life for my siblings and me. Their unwavering dedication and determination in the face of adversity became a source of inspiration, igniting within me a profound sense of resilience and a hustler’s spirit. Despite encountering numerous hardships, discrimination, and obstacles along our journey, my upbringing taught me the invaluable lesson of perseverance. It taught me to harness the strength derived from my Nigerian heritage and the sacrifices of my parents, empowering me to confront challenges head-on and navigate the complexities of life with unwavering resolve. In essence, my resilience is a product of the amalgamation of my parents’ sacrifices, the fortitude instilled by Nigerian culture, and the determination to overcome adversity. It is a testament to the indomitable spirit that drives me to push boundaries, defy expectations, and forge my path towards success, no matter the odds stacked against me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is David Ifediba, and my journey embodies resilience, faith, and unwavering determination. In December 2020, I found myself at a crossroads, without a job, burdened by debt, and uncertain about my future in real estate or pursuing a career in school psychology.

A pivotal moment came when my mother’s words of encouragement ignited a fire within me to persevere. Determined to carve out a brighter path, I took on two jobs at DD’s Discounts and Amazon while also stepping into the role of a substitute teacher. Balancing over 60 hours of work per week, I simultaneously applied for graduate school in school psychology and dedicated myself to studying for my real estate salesperson license.

My relentless efforts bore fruit in April 2021 when I earned a full scholarship to CSU Long Beach, purchased a new car, and secured another full scholarship for my graduate program. This marked the beginning of my transformative journey.

Fast forward nearly three years, and I am now on the cusp of completing my graduate program. I have not only secured a position as a school psychologist for the upcoming year but also made significant strides in my real estate career, having facilitated transactions totaling nearly $9 million in residential properties.

Under the brand “Deals with Dave,” I have established myself as a trusted figure in the real estate market. Additionally, I remain deeply committed to giving back to my community, serving as the National Young Adult President in the Igbo Catholic Community and contributing to Umu Igbo Unite as a member of the National Planning Team.

Whether I am advocating for students during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings or guiding clients through the complexities of buying or selling homes, my driving passion lies in service. I strive to be a steadfast pillar of support during pivotal moments in people’s lives, embodying the values of dedication, empathy, and integrity every step of the way.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities that profoundly influenced my success were resilience, adaptability, and a strong sense of passion and purpose. These traits enabled me to overcome obstacles, seize opportunities, and stay focused on my goals amidst uncertainty and challenges. Resilience allowed me to bounce back from setbacks and setbacks, while adaptability enabled me to thrive in diverse environments and embrace change. Additionally, my passion for serving others through school psychology and real estate, coupled with a clear sense of purpose, provided me with direction and motivation to persevere. For those early in their journey, I advise setting clear goals, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, seeking support and mentorship, committing to continuous learning, and taking proactive steps toward their aspirations. By cultivating these qualities and following this advice, individuals can navigate their paths with confidence and purpose, ultimately achieving their goals and realizing their fullest potential.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill has been instrumental in my personal and professional development. One of the most valuable nuggets of wisdom from the book is the emphasis on the power of mindset and belief in achieving success. Hill stresses the importance of maintaining a positive mental attitude and cultivating a burning desire to achieve one’s goals. This resonated with me deeply, as it underscored the significance of optimism and determination in overcoming obstacles and realizing aspirations. Additionally, the concept of “definiteness of purpose” stood out to me as a guiding principle for setting clear, achievable goals and staying focused on them with unwavering commitment. Another impactful insight from the book is the idea of leveraging the collective wisdom and support of a “mastermind group.” This highlights the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals who can offer guidance, support, and accountability on the journey to success. Overall, “Think and Grow Rich” has instilled in me the belief that success is not merely a matter of luck or circumstance, but rather a result of disciplined thought, decisive action, and unwavering faith in one’s abilities.
