We recently connected with Krissy King and have shared our conversation below.
Krissy, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
My self-discipline comes from a desire to always do better and never be complacent. Being a Mom of 3 small children ages 2, 4, and 6, being a wife, plus homeschooling, and running multiple businesses, you have to have strong drive to succeed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Krissy King and I’m based out of South Carolina! I’m a mom of 3 young children ages 2, 4,6 and run multiple businesses. I’m the Co-Founder and Producer along with my husband, Brady King, of The Bureau Fashion Week. We’ve become one of the largest, fastest growing Production Platforms for independent fashion designers. We produce some of the largest fashion shows for NYFW, Los Angeles Fashion Week, Dallas Fashion Week, and Miami Swim Week. We have become known as the “Fashion Week Family” as we always travel and produce these events with our children too. We just recently finished up Dallas and Los Angeles Fashion Weeks and will now begin preparing for Miami Swim Week
I’m also the CEO of my Brand, Krissy King the Label. It’s a luxury based swim brand that is becoming known for coordinating his and her looks. We’ve had some of the biggest influencers and celebrities walk for our Brand on the runway such as Dallas Cowboy football player Osa Odighizuwa, Kourtney Keller who is a model and wife of NBA star Isaiah Hartenstein, as well as several other influencers from around the world.
I also have my own photography company called KrissyKstudios with studios located in Easley, SC and Charlotte, NC. We focus on all styles of photography to include portfolio building, headshots, children’s portraits and branding work.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I had to pick three qualities or skills that have been most impactful to my journey so far, I would say: 1. Determination
2. Drive
3. Preparing myself for Failure and learning how to rise above it.
The last skill, I feel I have learned early on as I’ve learned that with every journey, there will be failures. The quicker I learned that was just part of the journey, I was able to condition myself in ways to bounce back faster and rise more quickly.
My advice to early entrepreneurs is to be sure you are doing something YOU LOVE! Don’t specifically go into something based on the amount of “money” you think it will bring. If you do something because you’re passionate, it won’t feel like work and you’ll get further. Expect to fail. Every great journey has a chapter or two, or three, of failure. Learn from it, grow, and try again.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for people to connect with. Networking and building your circle is always a good idea. The people I look for to collaborate and connect with are people in luxury or business corporation fields. We always aim to build relationships that are a win win for both parties.
