Meet Andrea Fantauzzi

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Fantauzzi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.

Andrea, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Determination and skill. Being skillful and knowledgeable about what I do, but also willing to ask questions, not being afraid of growth, and being a team player is important. I take my position of leadership seriously, and strive to be what I wanted to see in industry from a young age. Being a former child actor, I take child safety incredibly seriously and am grateful to be in a position where I am able to speak up, and take action if need be, to keep everyone safe on set.

Again, at the end of the day, being qualified and becoming a necessity allows anyone who feels the need to question me based on my age or gender obsolete. Take space, be kind, and train.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hi! My name is Andrea Fantauzzi and I am an Actor/Filmmaker.

What I love about my job, is the ability to showcase the world from a different viewpoint that has maybe never been discussed or looked into. I believe filmmaking can change the world as it is a safe place to learn, ask questions and not feel judged; the world becomes more empathic and understanding.

As an Actor, I love the ability to dive deep into someone else’s shoes and explore their baggage, upbringing, current situation and stakes. To behave truthfully under imaginary circumstances, that is the key to everything in my opinion.

As a Filmmaker, capturing the world and its characters both physically and emotionally is an honor and a joy. I am a hands on Director who collaborates with the actors, the Director of Photography and all other creatives on the project, to create the atmosphere of the film we are developing – it is a team effort in bringing a project to life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The ability to work with others and be a team player, the ability to adapt quickly, and tenacity.

Be careful of who you allow to mentor you, learn every position on set as this will help you appreciate the players, and train. You are never too old or too skilled to learn something new and if you have the ability, surround yourself with people who are at your skill set or better. Remember, it is a marathon not a sprint and if you do not have a strong foundation, it is easy to crack.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you are mentally not feeling it, there is nothing wrong with taking a day off and you should! It is important to know yourself inside and out, especially if you are freelancing. Set your hours and stick with them.
