Meet Lauren Lerner

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lauren Lerner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lauren below.

Hi Lauren, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
Learning to take risks came from fearing the regret of not doing so. When the fear of missed opportunities dominates, action becomes a necessity. Once one risk leads to success, it ignites an appetite, and you realize your innate ability to make your dreams come true. The euphoric high of realizing one’s potential becomes addicting, propelling one towards greater heights.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Living with Lolo is a full-service design firm that focuses on new builds, full home remodels, and furnishings. We love designing dynamic and welcoming residential spaces and are known for our eclectic and modern style, which translates to spaces that utilize clean lines, mixed metals, impactful colors, and timeless pieces. Our clients often tell us how much they love that we pushed them outside their comfort zones to create spaces as unique as they are. I feel my approach to business and design is unique from other designers because my path was quite different than most; in turn, I don’t follow “typical design textbook rules.” I enjoy nudging my clients out of their comfort zone to help create an ultra-customized end product that is magazine-worthy!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Acknowledge that there’s always room to grow by being open to seeking guidance from a mentor or asking for help. Every step you take in life, no matter how small, contributes to your journey. My prior experience in customer service and business management enabled me to foster the necessary skills and implement them in my interior design business.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
During moments of overwhelm, I take a step back and focus on the smaller tasks at hand that comprise the bigger picture. I find that many of these tasks are easily achievable, and checking them off my list grants me a sense of relief. Moreover, taking breaks for myself during the workday—such as hiking or mountain biking—reduces stress and the feeling of being overwhelmed.
