Meet Najmeh (Sara) Pirahmadian

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Najmeh (Sara) Pirahmadian. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Najmeh (Sara) below.

Najmeh (Sara), thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
My creativity thrives on always diving into new projects, being curious, and constantly learning, especially when I see what others are creating. Being part of the creative community at Ohio University, I’m surrounded by a wide range of ideas and viewpoints, which sparks my imagination and pushes my creativity forward.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi there! I’m Sara Pirahmadian, but you might also know me as Najmeh on paper. I’m originally from the beautiful city of Shiraz in Iran, a place that’s as rich in culture and history as it is in heart. I bring together the worlds of art and design, not just with the skills I’ve honed but also with the soul of my country. After earning my MA from Soore University of Art back in Iran, I ventured to Ohio University, where I’m currently diving into an MFA in Graphic Design.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of engaging in a diverse array of projects, encompassing branding, corporate identity design, product design, packaging, and motion graphics. Recently, my focus has shifted towards storytelling through interactive design, particularly in the realms of video mapping and motion graphics. This variety has not only broadened my skill set but has also allowed me to explore the different ways art and design can tell a story, evoke emotions, and connect with people. My work is a testament to the power of design in creating visually compelling and meaningful experiences, blending the rich tapestry of Iranian historical and folk art with contemporary design.

I believe that art and design should walk hand in hand, each enriching the other with its unique perspective. As I continue to explore this dynamic intersection at Ohio University, I’m excited to see where this journey takes me. So, here I am, Sara, an artist and designer, ready to make my mark and maybe even spark a little joy along the way. Let’s see where this adventure leads!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, the three elements that have had the most impact are adaptability, a deep understanding of design fundamentals, and the ability to tell compelling stories through my work. Being adaptable has allowed me to navigate the ever-changing landscape of design, embracing new tools and trends to stay innovative. The importance of mastering foundational design principles cannot be overstated; understanding color theory, typography, and layout has been crucial in creating effective designs. Practice and feedback are key here, as they help refine these essential skills. Additionally, effective storytelling has enabled me to connect with audiences on an emotional level, making my work not just seen but felt. For those at the beginning of their design journey, I recommend cultivating a mindset open to learning and change. Dive into a variety of projects to practice your skills, even hypothetical ones, seek constructive feedback, and study a wide range of creative works to enhance your storytelling abilities. And importantly, don’t forget to have fun with it. Remember, the path of art and design is one of constant learning and passion, where each challenge is an opportunity to grow, and enjoying the process is just as crucial as the outcome.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who knows their brand well and is open to a collaborative design journey. They value clear, constructive communication and are eager to deepen their understanding of art and design alongside me. This partnership is built on trust, with the client respecting my expertise while being open to exploring new ideas. Trusting the expertise and experiments of the designer is fundamental to this relationship, and recognizing that paying for the design is an investment in their brand’s future.

Moreover, such clients are enthusiastic about becoming well-educated in design principles, making our collaboration not only smoother but more enriching. In essence, the ideal client is not just seeking a service but a shared experience that values creativity, mutual respect, and the educational journey within the creative process.
