We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rashan Carter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rashan below.
Rashan, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
This question speaks to my depth as my business name is Passion & Purpose Fulfilled, PLLC. Purpose by definition means the reason for something that is done, created, intended, etc. So essentially, I did not find my purpose it truly found me. As a mental health therapist, my purpose was to assist those who needed a therapeutic environment where their voices could be heard with inspiration, innovation, involvement, influence, and insight. I learned about this need, as a licensed chemical dependency counselor working with the DWI and Drug Courts and the many individuals that I counseled. They would share their stories and one question I would ask that they found so much freedom in answering was “What brought you to it?” much like the trauma-informed question of “What happened to you?” This allows individuals to be seen as just that individuals, not their mental health diagnosis or their addiction but as a person who need to be heard. I learned that this was my purpose, the ability to offer the listening ear and my heart to understand.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private mental health and substance use disorder practice. I focus my therapeutic sessions on the client’s ability to embody their emotional wellness and self-care. What I find the most exciting about what I do is the opportunity to educate my clients with my passionate friend who just so happens to be a therapist vibe; their ability to advocate for themselves with themselves from that education; and my ability to see the transformation as they see it through their own eyes. It’s exciting to hear my clients share how much they feel they learn or how much fun they have in session even though its difficult stuff they are grappling with or how much they want to share with others what they learn even down to not wanting to share me with those they tell.
I am also an award-winning author for my guided journal “Purposeful Life: A Passion-driven Guided Journal”; along with being a co-author of an empowering book “Taking the S off my Chest” and a workbook. I plan to create more journals soon.
I am also growing the brand with wellness products by way of reed diffusers, roll-on blends, pocket self-care kits, and self-care retreats. All information will be available soon on my website.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities: 1. dedication to the vision that I received – meaning I was blessed to receive the vision of my brand and I decided to see it to fulfillment even when I didn’t see the path or what the outcome was going to be. 2. heart for healing and holding – I share all the time that I can’t give my blood but I can give my heart to those who need it. 3. listening ear – everyone has a story and a voice that wants to be heard, I just positioned myself to be there to listen.
My advice go after what makes your soul smile, that way every day the journey feels worth it. Be honest with yourself on the good, the bad, the indifferent, and the ugly days because each one is a learning curve to do better, be better, and grow.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am looking for other mental health professionals to collaborate with for referrals. Mental Health is a growing field and being a one-person practice I can get overwhelmed with clientele at times so having a robust list of providers to share or even consult on cases with would be helpful. Also psychiatrist or nurse practitioners for those who are interested in psychotropic medication services.
