We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Satin Pelfrey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Satin, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
One of my favorite phrases to use to answer this question is that God has graciously turned my pain to empowerment!
It is through all the pain I’ve faced and overcome in my life, through Christ, that I have come to understand my purpose in life: to help others heal emotionally, mentally and physically through Mind, Body, Spirit Release™.
I am a breast implant illness THRIVER. I have experienced health challenges, the loss of both parents to cancer, the loss of my husband’s dream/our business together, the loss of our home, having to move across country to a state where we didn’t know a soul, been betrayal by friends and family alike #butGod has graciously provided for us in ways we never imagined. God brought people into my life to open my eyes to the holistic side of healing and that is where I discovered MBSR™, tried it personally and yielded amazing results so profound I knew I wanted to become an MBSR™ Practitioner so I could help others heal at a deeper level than they ever realized were possible.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I chose to pursue my certification in MBSR™ because for decades, I have had a burning passion to help others heal from their deepest pain, loss, and trauma. MBSR™ is a beautiful Christian modality (tool) that has been instrumental in going into the deeper places my traditional counseling experiences couldn’t go, to bring healing and restoration into my life and relationships like I never imagined possible. After such a positive experience with MBSR™ in my own life, I am passionate about sharing it with anyone else looking to go deeper in their healing journey.
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and chose my MBSR™ certification because of how much I believe in it. While I have toyed with the idea of pursuing my master’s degree in counseling, MBSR™ targets healing at a deeper level, and allows me to see clients across the globe, without borders and limitations, whereas a license in counseling would limit who I can see and where they are located. Personally, I believe I am made for more and serving people globally is part of my vision, so MBSR™ allows me to do more of what I love, with those I choose to serve and with the ease and flexibility I long for in a career.
MBSR™ is great for those seeking to:
Reduce the effects of stress and stressful triggers on the mind and body.
Enhance spiritual growth.
Create and foster healthier relationships.
Develop healthier boundaries.
Become aware of and more in control of what behaviors are driving actions.
Develop a deeper sense of love and self-compassion.
Experience more physical and emotional balance.
Enhance cognitive clarity and speed.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The first thing I attribute to being the most impactful in my journey is my relationship with God. I was raised by two amazing parents who led by their example and personal walk with God. I grew up knowing God intimately and understanding He had a plan for my life and would use me as long as I surrendered to His will for my life. My faith has never waivered. My roots go deep and my love and trust in God is what grounds me and makes me strong in my passion to help others. I have hope because I serve a God who has given me hope and a future – so I want to pass that same hope on to others by helping them heal at a deeper level.
The second thing that has been impactful in my journey is my life-experience. I know first hand what it feels like to watch someone/people you love die and I know the grief associated with that loss. I know how it feels to succeed and become the best in a business, then fall and have your entire reputation tainted by haters who chose to believe a lie told to them about you over what they witnessed by your actions. I know how it feels to be betrayed by family and friends and walk alone through the darkest days of my life. #butGod carried me through all of it courageously and victoriously. So here I am, on the other side of all the pain – allowing God to empower me to be a beacon of hope to those who are hurting.
The third thing that has been impactful in my journey is my grit and development of patience. By nature, I am not a patient person #butGod has been honing patience within me for years. Every time I received a “no”, “not now”, “not possible”. Every time I faced rejection or was hurt by betrayal and chose to forgive. Every time I failed I got back up – pushed through, did what needed to be done and accomplished every goal I ever set. I have purposed to learn from ever trial I have ever faced; not quitting or bowing down to fear. Rather, I chose to view every hardship as a learning opportunity to grow in my faith and grow in my humanity. One of the highest compliments I have ever received came from my Uncle who told me I have grit like my mama; I come from a line of strong Godly women and I don’t take the compliment lightly. My mom was and will always be my hero for her immense strength, her grit & determination as well as her fervent walk with God.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is anyone desiring to grow in their walk with God, willing to commit to the necessary work to heal, and open to Mind, Body, Spirit Release™ – which is also known as energy work from a Christian standpoint.
My ideal client is anyone who has suffered Trauma/trauma, loss, insecurity, anxiety, relational struggles with friends, family or a spouse/significant other. Any of these scenarios leave an imprint on the body, storing the emotions of that event within the body, thus bogging it down with limiting beliefs, blocks and/or negative emotions. Through MBSR™ we discover the various blocks negatively impacting the client, and release them to walk in freedom and joy again.
Anyone willing to put in the work to heal will yield amazing results and I love working with individuals passionate about their healing journey. MBSR™ is not a passive modality, rather yields the best results when the client is hands-on, learning and growing and retraining their body through the action steps assigned.
