Meet Vince Rivers

We were lucky to catch up with Vince Rivers recently and have shared our conversation below.

Vince, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
A friend once said “When people ask ‘What do you do?’ my response is always ‘What do you need?’” My purpose can be found wherever my abilities meet the needs of others. Every musician, either openly or secretly craves the spotlight, but I’ve found great satisfaction, reward and opportunity focusing on serving others through music. I’ve spent the past 12 years using music to connect with children with developmental disabilities and aging adults.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, performing artist and storyteller. I perform for mostly private/ corporate events, worship centers, adult care centers and youth camps. My work is divided into two main areas, performance and outreach. My performances are directed towards the perviously mentioned venues, while my outreach work is directed towards aging adults and children with disabilities.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Kindness: Be kind to everyone, Smile. Give people the benefit of doubt, and don’t take every negative thing personal.

2. Patience: It takes years to create an overnight success. Long term goals are very important.

3. Fearlessness: Rejection and failure will always be a part of life, they never go away. Proper planning, research and preparation will alway take you to the point of just closing you eyes and jumping.

4. Perserverence: You just can’t quit. Every successful person has a story that relates to yours. It’s imperative that you go through the storm or the furnace. How else will you learn!

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
