Meet Decory Davis

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Decory Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Decory below.

Decory, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Great question! My resiliency was birthed out of my determination to prove to the people who said that I could not do something. Just thinking, as a teen preparing for graduation- I remember going to see the Cap Advisor right before graduating and she shared with me: “why not consider being a garbage man because they make a lot of money.” And, not discrediting that career or menial labor, but seeing my peers come back with their acceptance letters to FAMU, Florida State University and Miami-Dade Community College, I wept vehemently! And, suffice it to say, my tears ran down my face because I always knew deep down inside that I could do more; but, l was just told I couldn’t! Yet, with a cultivating growth mindset and actively seeking opportunities for personal development and self- improvement, my resiliency soared in the face of adversity, and I beat the odds and graduated from Morehouse College in 2001 with my BA in Political Science!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a seasoned Educator with over 20 years in Education, CEO of Live Again Foundations International Inc. and a Podcaster with Crack the Mic Podcast w/Agent of Change Decory Davis, l plan on opening up a “therapeutic community” DBA Total Recovery Center that will house homeless people, men and women who are victims of domestic violence and ex-offenders who are seeking to get re-acclimated back into society. Now, to be clear, this this multimillion dollar; project will only remain a dream unless funding available. Therefore, I decided to use my gift of “gab” so to speak and launched a podcast (Crack the Mic) that can be viewed on every major distribution outlet and is currently going into season 3. But, the journey to getting to where I am with the podcast today came with a lot of trepidation because of the lack of support initially. But, with the help of almighty God and partnerships with the Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, I was able to do a segment that focused on “Human Trafficking.” And, as a result of that segment it opened up other opportunities for me to work with people like: the Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Office on a segment entitled: “Gun Violence In America” and other distinguish guest like: Dr David Bullock who has appeared on msnbc’s The Rachel Maddow Show, The Ed show, Sirius XM The Joe Madison Show just to name a few. And, potentially have launched my Brand to such notoriety that we are currently in talks with three cities to launch a tour entitled: I’m My Sister’s Keeper’s Tour, a tour that will focus on women helping other women through literacy, education and therapy combat childhood traumas.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In hindsight, three skills that aided me in moving forward with my journey are adaptability, great communication skills and leadership!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Great question! My “team” has been very helpful and instrumental in me overcoming any challenges that I’ve faced along the way, because transparency and candor is our organization’s lipmotif! And, the reason why we use transparency is because we believe we should be able to stand amongst each other “naked and not ashamed,” and the phrase is not to be taken literally; but, figuratively speaking because we believe that showing up as your “authentic self” is key to overcoming any challenges that you may have! Furthermore, candor is also very key to our organization, because with any missing skills or underdeveloped skills that may need to be attended to, we can work on it collaboratively as a team ensuring that we present our best selves to the world!
