Meet Graffick

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Graffick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Graffick below.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an electronic music producer, visual artist, and DJ. My music steps outside of the lines of traditional genres and aims to offer something new and refreshing. Writing and performing music is my passion and I am constantly on the lookout for new techniques and new skills to add to my craft. My upcoming album “Spectra” is a culmination of all that I have learned in the past 20 years of making electronic music.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I had to sum up the most important qualities that I’ve learned over the years into three categories they would be: Clarity, Dedication, and Discipline.

I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to have a career in music, but I realized that there were a lot of necessary questions I needed to ask and have answers for in order to feel confident about that calling. Questions like “Why do I want a career in music? Why do I create music? What type of career in music do I want to have? What are my strengths?” etc… Having answers to these questions helps to bolster self confidence and provides a foundation to the next important quality: Dedication.

There were many times when I felt like giving up, calling it quits, and moving on. I wasted a lot of energy wondering if I was good enough or was wasting my time. Adapting a mindset of dedication allowed me to maneuver through insecurities and turn that energy into opportunities to improve my situation. Knowing that I have to move forward no matter what changed how I think about any type of setback. Most things become minor problems that need a solution.

The most important quality is discipline. It’s easy to get distracted or to endlessly churn out a bunch of ideas, but at the end of the day, it’s the ability to buckle yourself down and see a project through to completion that will get you to the next level. Being honest with your strengths, weaknesses, successes, and failures allows you to get a scope of where you are and where you want want to be. You have to be disciplined to take action and improve your capabilities.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
If ever I’m feeling overwhelmed I take a step back and try to to approach whatever is overwhelming me methodically. I look at the overall situation and break it down into tiny manageable steps. All of the symptoms that come with being overwhelmed, like overthinking, anxiety, and getting stuck, can be relieved by having a solid plan that can carry you to your end goal. Sometimes the goal seems to big to take on all at once. Breaking it down into smaller steps can help make big tasks feel more manageable.
