Meet Que Workman

We were lucky to catch up with Que Workman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Que , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding purpose as a hairstylist can be deeply fulfilling , as my craft directly impacts people’s self-perception and confidence. This profession is much more than just coloring and styling hair; it’s about creating joy, fostering self-expression, and building connections. Each snip and style can transform how a person feels about themselves, offering them a new perspective or a renewed sense of confidence. Your work allows you to be an artist, using hair as your canvas to express creativity and bring visions to life. Beyond the aesthetics, you become a confidant and a cherished part of your clients’ lives, sharing in their most significant moments and everyday stories.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Que Workman, and I am a dedicated hairstylist specializing as a blonding expert. With nearly a decade of experience in the industry, my journey has been both challenging and exhilarating. Initially drawn to the field with a passion for makeup, I embarked on my cosmetology education under the impression it would lead me to a career in makeup artistry. However, the curriculum’s focus was elsewhere, leading me to discover and fall in love with the art of hair coloring and the creative possibilities of working with lighteners. Despite not being naturally adept in this area, my commitment to excellence propelled me to seek further education. I diligently attended classes and pursued online training, investing in myself to refine my skills. This dedication has culminated in the development of a loyal clientele, and in significantly enriching my professional life. Currently, I operate as a booth renter in a salon that I greatly admire, collaborating with the esteemed Masters of Balayage brand. My ambition is unwavering; I strive to excel daily, with the ultimate goal of one day establishing my own salon space. My journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, education, and passion in achieving professional success and personal fulfillment within the beauty industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For a hairstylist aiming to make a significant impact in this career, you must learn pivotal qualities and skills that will help you grow. The ones I find most important is:

Communication and empathy. For you to be able to listen and connect with your clients. Thats how you gain clients.

Learning is another I think is very important! I always say, “Never stop learning” because the moment you feel like you know it all, you become stuck. There is always something to learn, you just have to be willing to, and want to learn it. That’s it.

Adapting, and I say that because the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and embracing new challenges is crucial.

By prioritizing these qualities—communication, continuous learning, and adaptability—a hairstylist, you can significantly enhance your career

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Omg this is a good question but my ideal client would be someone who values and trusts my expertise, allowing for a collaborative relationship where ideas can be freely exchanged. The trust not only pushes me to deliver my best work but also ensures that the client leaves feeling confident and satisfied with their look. Also, someone who understands that achieving that perfect color is a process and that it may require multiple sessions, and they are committed to that journey with me. That is the ideal client, so if you are her let’s connect!
