Meet J0VANNA

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful J0VANNA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

J0VANNA, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I try to practice self-care as much as I can even though it isn’t easy and requires a lot of time and effort. especially with my busy schedule. But whether it’s going out for a walk, meditating for a few minutes, or getting a mani-pedi, I always try to find some “me-time” in my schedule. I also believe it is key to try to get out of my comfort zone. In the last few months of 2023, I experimented with my hair color: peach, pink, and then a mermaid look with purple roots, pink midsections, and peach ends, followed by full purple, and then blue. It was a fun thing to do but it was quite difficult at times. But ultimately it made me feel better about my appearance, which was a nice confidence booster.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So, I’m a Pop/R&B Singer-Songwriter from South Florida. I started my music career at the age of 15, performing with a rock band at local venues. By the age of 18, I began pursuing a solo career. I also went to Berklee College of Music in order to deepen my understanding of the music industry. In May 2023, I graduated with a degree in Music Business. Currently, I have four songs released: “Brain On Fire,” “TwentyOne,” “Stupid Face,” and “BOYS AIN’T SH!T.” Notably, “TwentyOne” was featured on two prominent Spotify Editorial playlists, “Viral Hits” with 3M saves and “Hit Italiane” with 440K saves. Last month, I released my 4th single, “BOYS AIN’T SH!T,” which deals with the dynamics of toxic relationships. The goal is to provide a narrative of empowerment, where the girl recognizes her worth and walks away. It’s available on all major streaming platforms! It is a Dark Pop/ALT R&B anthem for anyone. It doesn’t matter what gender you are! I would love for you to give it a listen!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I look back, I want to say that my knowledge of the music industry, my passion, and my determination have had the most impact on my journey. At an early age, I was exposed to many opportunities to learn the craft. It has helped me navigate the industry more effectively and make more informed decisions about my career. Having these qualities keeps me going. I know that wanting to be a part of this industry is not easy. But my passion and determination drive me to continue working hard. And eventually, I hope to establish a little place for myself and my music.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I try to take time for myself. That may mean stopping what I am doing and stepping outside because I feel the most serene when I close my eyes and let myself embrace the world around me. Sometimes I tell myself that it’s okay to relax and not do anything for a day. When I need to give myself a little more reassurance, I sometimes say a simple mantra to make myself feel grounded and remind myself that the feeling of being overwhelmed will pass.
