We were lucky to catch up with Kidd Kwest recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kidd, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Mostly through education. Reading and learning. When you know things and are constantly trying to be better then people’s doubts don’t matter as much. There’s clarity in knowing who you are and knowing you’re constantly growing. You also realize most people judge because of a lack of education. Hip Hop itself was also very influential on giving me my confidence.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been making hip hop music and throwing shows since High School. I manage a recording studio in Fort Myers Florida called Trackout Studios. I am there daily making beats. I’m finishing up two different EPs right now that are kind of sister projects to eachother. One is called “Save Money, Spend Time” and the other is called “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost” they will both be out this year. We are constantly putting on events but none that I can fully talk about right now but check out my socials and you’ll see all the things me and the rest of my art collective “DeadLink Clique” is involved with.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Be yourself, make 1,000 songs, take nothing for granted.
Do not chase trends, find your voice, and find confidence in being yourself because that will make fans of your art more connected
Don’t stop working, the work is never over, make it a habit
Do not expect anything, don’t shame your friends if they don’t support, find your fanbase and find ways to appreciate every moment and opportunity your art takes you, it may not be what you expected but if you look at it without expectations it’s likely beautiful.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Encourage me and be there for me Many artists don’t have that support from their parents
Them simply allowing me to be who I wanted will be something I cherish forever. They are artists themselves so they were more understanding
