Meet Ashante Rosier, Esq.

We were lucky to catch up with Ashante Rosier, Esq. recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ashante, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Developing confidence and self-esteem is a journey that often involves a combination of self-reflection, personal growth, and practice – and it has been QUITE a journey for me so far!

Confidence and self-esteem is something that is still struggle with from time to time but here are some of the things that have helped me develop a foundation for creating an unwavering faith in myself:

1. Understanding my strengths, weaknesses, values, and beliefs. Reflecting on my past experiences in an effort to identify patterns that may have shaped your confidence levels is key to understanding why you may lack confidence in yourself and find experiences that can help build your confidence.

2. Recognizing and challenging negative self-talk was very important on my journey. People talk a lot about manifesting in terms of bringing about positive goals, but it can also work in the opposite direction. The more negatively you speak about yourself, the more those become your truths and your reality. I had to adopt a number of reframing techniques to help me break out of this habit and continuously speak positively about myself and my achievements.

3. Every single person should be acknowledging and celebrating your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem in comparison to others. For me, I am definitely a “treat yourself” kind of person. So even if my accomplishment for the day is making it through a tough day, I do something nice for myself (which looks different for every individual). For me, doing this has helped reinforce a positive self-image and feel good about myself.

These are just some of the things that I have done over the last decade or so to help build my confidence and reinforce a POSITIVE self-image. Please remember that building confidence and self-esteem is a gradual process, and it’s okay to have setbacks along the way. Be patient and give yourself grace as you continue to grow and develop.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that I think have been most impactful in my journey are being adaptable, being open to constructive criticism from mentors/peers, and being knowledgable about your practice area.

Being able to pivot and adapt based on feedback from those in your inner circle has been key for me and I think it is a quality that every person should have, whether they are business owners or not. I have changed plans and reimagined my goals several times since I started my business – but ultimately, every change has the same end goal in mind when it comes to my work life balance and the service that I want to offer to clients. If the stepping stones to meet my ultimate goal change over time, that’s okay and it is expected!

Accepting criticism and learning from your mentors/peers is self-explanatory. No man is an island and you need community around you to succeed. Whether you need someone to bounce ideas off of, need templates for a service that you are providing or an email that you are sending, or just needing someone to review a newsletter or social media post, you NEED people in your corner. However, you also have to be willing to listen to those people and potentially learn from those people to get better.

Being knowledgable about the practice area that you are providing services in will always be important. I can only speak for lawyer and accountants (since my mother is a CPA), but things are always changing! It is important to keep up with those changes and inform your client base about those changes when applicable. Some advice I found helpful recently was taking the first 30 minutes of my day to read blogs and google alerts about updates in my area of practice, then if I see something that I need to look further into, I will make time to do that later in the day. This is something I would recommend to anyone early on in their careers, not matter what path they are on.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing that my mom did for me was support me.

Since the moment I said I wanted to be an attorney, she did everything in her power to make my dream a reality. When I wanted to chose the college I wanted to go to, she supported me every step of the way (even when it meant picking me up from school every other weekend my freshman year because I was homesick). When I wanted to open my law firm, as someone who has been self employed since I can remember, she shared her expertise with me and has continued to support me on my entrepreneurial journey.

I can truly say that I would not be where I am today if it was not for the support that I have received from my mom.
