We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Reyes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ashley with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I’ve always prided myself on my work ethic, which I believe stems from my independent nature. I’ve never been one to conform to norms or follow the crowd, whether it’s in school, at work, or in my personal style. In school, I was the type to finish assignments well ahead of time because I preferred getting things done efficiently. At various jobs, I naturally gravitated towards leadership roles, even if they weren’t officially assigned to me. And when it comes to my appearance, I embrace my individuality with piercings, colorful hair, and gauged ears – it’s all part of who I am, and I have no regrets about it.
I truly believe that this non-conformist attitude and determination to stay true to myself have been instrumental in my ability to establish and run my own business. Being able to be authentic and take charge has fueled my work ethic and driven me to succeed.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about your business and maybe something you want to achieve in the future before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Shameless Waxing LLC, we’re dedicated to providing top-notch waxing services, specializing in Brazilian waxes for both men and women. Our pride lies in achieving exceptional results using high-quality, low-temperature hard wax, ensuring a less painful and faster waxing experience. Additionally, we offer specialized aftercare treatments known as vagacials/mangacials, designed to address irritations, ingrown hairs, and maximize moisture retention and skin health.
What sets us apart is our commitment to client education. While we’re known for our speed waxing techniques, we also prioritize skin care and addressing any concerns that arise during the process. We believe in empowering our clients with knowledge so they can make informed decisions about their skin care routines.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to introduce Advanced Training Courses for Waxing. These courses will be tailored to aspiring estheticians and cosmetologists, focusing on educating them on client communication, purposeful waxing techniques, and creating memorable experiences for their clients.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Product Knowledge is key, whether you’re working for yourself or someone else. Understanding the products you offer can significantly impact the quality of services, how the skin responds, and ultimately your income. Clients appreciate when you can confidently recommend products tailored to their needs, enhancing their experience and loyalty.
Speed Waxing is a game-changer often overlooked in traditional education. While not commonly taught in school, it’s the most efficient way to deliver services. Clients value their time, and being able to provide quick yet effective treatments sets you apart. Consider seeking additional training or working in an environment that specializes in speed waxing to elevate your skills and career prospects.
Offering a Comfortable Space is essential for building client loyalty. Creating a welcoming environment where clients can escape from the stresses of everyday life enhances their overall experience. Remember, it’s not just about the service; it’s about the entire experience you provide.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to my parents, who have been my unwavering support system throughout this journey. Their support, both emotionally and financially, has been invaluable. When I embarked on the journey of opening my own business, I was filled with anxiety, but knowing that I had their support in financing the startup eased one of my biggest concerns.
My family generously offered to loan me the startup funds necessary to turn my dream into reality. However, it wasn’t a free pass; I treated the process with the same seriousness as if I were applying for a bank loan. I meticulously prepared a structured business plan, outlined all necessary expenses, and explained why each investment was crucial. As I write this, I’m diligently repaying the loan on a monthly basis.
Beyond financial assistance, my parents rolled up their sleeves and helped me set everything up flawlessly, ensuring that I was ready to hit the ground running from day one. Their belief in me and their unwavering support have been instrumental in my success. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for always believing in me and standing by my side.
