We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luis Moreno a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism draws from the hopeful anticipation that tomorrow holds the promise of a renewed beginning. A transformative event or the presence of someone influential, absent before, could potentially turn the impossible into the attainable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Originally from The Bronx, New York, I am a digital artist based in Miami, Florida. In 2017, I launched my dedicated Instagram account solely focused on showcasing my artistic creations. My brand @MorenoArtwork has received acclaim and acknowledgment from WWE superstars, including Roman Reigns, Ronda Rousey, Goldberg, Bret Hart, Sting, Rey Mysterio, Becky Lynch, and Hulk Hogan. K-pop idols, including TWICE, TRI.BE, CRAXY, aespa, Red Velvet, VCHA and GFRIEND, have also praised and recognized the work of Luis G. Moreno. Additionally, Viz Media Comics, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee have commended @MorenoArtwork for its ‘cartoon’ style.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Many artists, regardless of their experience, grapple with the challenge of finding their unique art style. Sometimes, self-doubt can cloud your artistic instincts. While learning from various art styles is valuable, I prefer to absorb specific qualities from each style as I embark on a journey to discover a style that resonates with me and brings me joy. My current cartoon style has provided me with immense satisfaction. It reflects how I perceive the world daily. I strive to approach each situation with optimism, reminiscent of my childhood years. Hence, it is a rewarding experience for me to interpret and portray people in my cartoon style.
My unique drawing style is characterized by a combination of traditional simplicity in certain areas and intricate line work in others, setting me apart from others. In 2021, I was honored to receive an award in the prestigious DC FanDome art competition. My distinctive interpretation of the Justice League, rendered in my signature “cute style,” stood out among thousands of global submissions, catching the attention of DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer, the legendary Jim Lee. This recognition not only instilled a newfound confidence in my abilities but also reinforced my appreciation for my distinctive artistic style.
Initially, I hesitated to create an Instagram account dedicated to my artwork. The prospect of sharing my creations on a widely used public platform like Instagram filled me with anxiety. I feared the potential for criticism in the comments or, even worse, the unauthorized use or copying of my work.
However, over time, I realized that these apprehensions are common among digital artists contemplating posting their work on social media platforms. I am grateful that I took the risk, trusting that the benefits would outweigh the drawbacks.
Today, I am immensely grateful for the numerous wonderful opportunities and enduring friendships that have stemmed from starting that Instagram account a few years ago. The positive outcomes of sharing my artwork with the world have been immeasurable, and I cherish the connections and experiences that have resulted from this decision.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Whenever I encounter a passionate, genuine content creator, whether they are an artist or not, I am instantly inspired to collaborate with them somehow. I believe that valuable insights can be gained from engaging with things and people that resonate with us. Collaboration offers an avenue for forging meaningful friendships, fosters short-term creative partnerships, and provides an opportunity for mutual learning and growth. Fortunately , every collaboration I have experienced has been time well spent. Learning from others is key to personal growth.
