Meet Joseph Wendrich

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Wendrich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Joseph, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
I’ve always held myself accountable to a high standard. By this I mean that if I have potential, it would be a waste to only develop some of it, by doing so I would be letting myself down. I find a unique joy in doing something well, and watching my own progression, as well as the areas I need to improve upon. Discipline is forged in the mind, and I think Mike Tyson said it best; “discipline is doing something you hate like you love it.” It’s true that it isn’t easy, if it was everyone would do it, but I find that to be motivational in itself, knowing that I’m walking a path not everyone will. That might mean getting up an hour earlier, three more reps in the gym, continually practicing your skills, eating a healthy diet, and cutting out detrimental habits. I practiced judo from a young age, and I think the natural discipline required of sports, especially martial arts, gave me a great foundation for later on in life. I’m also the eldest of four brothers, which I think subconsciously motivates me because I know I have a responsibility towards them as well. I’ve found that the more you practice a disciplined lifestyle, it not only becomes easier, but you want to push yourself more, and when you do break the routine to rest and recover, it is more enjoyable because it feels earned.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m twenty-four years old, I was born in Wales, UK, and I’m based in Los Angeles. I trained at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and I’m currently working as an actor here in Hollywood. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the most talented upcoming talent in the industry, as well as learning from industry professionals at the top of their game. Meeting people who have the same desire to make great and meaningful work and seeing the dedication and enthusiasm behind the creatives in the industry has been an inspiration and continually motivates me to keep pushing my own boundaries.

I’ve just wrapped my second mini series, “Lucifer: My Boyfriend from Hell,” and I’m currently in pre-production on a short film I’ve written, “My Sweet Frankenstein,” which I will direct and act in, an exciting first for me. I’ve also been cast in a fantasy movie series “Sidhe” which is still in it’s pre-production stages.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think discipline and determination are two qualities that drive me in life, and both complement each other as determination keeps me on track for my end goal in the big picture, and discipline keeps me moving towards it in daily life. Being willing to put in the work is something that I think can get overlooked in a world where we celebrate end results, but the hidden truth is that getting to the results takes a lot of unglamorous hard work that isn’t always appreciated.

Finally it’s freedom that is really important to me. The freedom to do what I love for a living, and travel to places I never thought I could by doing so, is something I’ll never take for granted, and treasure for the rest of my life.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking to collaborate with creatives who have a vision of something they want to create, or who are interested in one of my own projects. I’m a huge action, fantasy and sci-fi fan, and would love to meet people who share this passion and who would be interested in working in these genres.
