Meet Gilberto Herrera

We recently connected with Gilberto Herrera and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gilberto, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline was instilled in me as a child by my grandmother. She raised me and I can vividly remember having structure and discipline while being in her care.

Even at a young age, she ensured that I made my bed and never left my room or any part of the house dirty or unorganized. When I came home from school, I ate, did homework and had a limited amount of time with the TV during the week. I had a strict bedtime. We always looked ahead at any projects or tests that I had to ensure that I was always ready. On Sundays, all of my clothes were together for the week.

Looking back on it, this prepared me to be where I am today. I still have this same routine as an adult.

My days are structured and planned out. I limit the amount of distractions and consistently stay on task. I treat my life like a well-run business.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Marketing and Business Professional with 15 years of business development experience and 10 years of digital marketing and direct response marketing experience. I am also Alabama’s Grow with Google Digital Coach, which is free program from Google that provides training, resources and tools to business owners to grow their businesses online.

What I get most excited about is helping businesses owners live a life they don’t need a vacation from. They are able to achieve time and financial freedom by working with me and following my processes.

My personal brand is now expanding into entertainment. I am currently in a TV series called Dundrill Heights and more opportunities are rapidly coming.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three skills that have helped me the most are having a strong personal brand. People are connected to people and no matter what I do, i am fortunate enough to have the love and support of the public. This has allowed me to do a TEDx Talk, be a former national TV Show Host, a highly sought out speaker and conference presenter, and now an actor.

The next skill that I has allowed me to get to where I am today is business development. To be successful at it, you need to learn how to cold call, knock on doors, attract the interest of decision makers, present, negotiate and close deals.

Lastly, direct response marketing. Not the pretty fancy stuff most think of when marketing comes to mind. This is simply the art of knowing what to put out to get garner interest from your potential customers.

If you are early in your career, acquire these high-income skills. If you do, you will always be valuable in the marketplace. Take some time every day to learn and improve on these skills. You will thank yourself later.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of improvement has been to become a better leader to those that report to me and people in the community.

In order to be an effective leader, you have to be alright with giving someone everything they need so they won’t need you anymore, but treating them so well that they never want to.

So i have been reading books, consuming as much content as possible and getting advice from my mentors to become stronger in this area.
