Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Frances Young. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Frances, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I honestly believe I was a child born with confidence and charisma. I start with this statement not to come across as arrogant or narcissistic but, truly from a very young age I have had a passion to perform and be ‘on a stage’ in front of others wherever I go. I began doing dance competitions at the age of 8 years old, and I would happily classify myself as a ‘teacher’s pet’ all throughout my years in academia.
However, I continually work on my internal critic and self-esteem as this is a part of my Achilles heel. As a child I was praised for my good grades and achievements in dance. I remember one of my first dance teachers telling me two quotes that have stuck with me, ‘Go Big, or Go Home’ and ‘Perfect Practice, makes Perfect’. I may have even been born with the pursuit of perfectionism flowing through my veins. I have won countless dance competitions, performed with professional dance companies, won awards, lifted more weight than most of my friends and family and helped numerous clients over the years after becoming a personal trainer and energetic healer. On the occasions where I have not won, that I have to try and try again or that I have felt my heartbroken in some way, I take a long time to recover from what feels like a life-altering loss. My sense of self-worth became woven with a narrative that if I did not ‘win’ I would not be rewarded or loved unconditionally.
I have lost intimate relationships due to my love of dance and passions. If a romantic partner was not interested in my dancing or day-to-day work, I would seek every possible opportunity to impress them in order to receive validation and boost my self-esteem. At the time in which I was graduating from my undergrad in contemporary dance I had an ex-boyfriend actually say, ‘Yea, I broke up with you because you are a dancer and they don’t make money.’ Releasing the self-judgement and shame from that relationship took, give or take 5 years, which looking back now sounds, kind of ridiculous. I give compassion to that version of Frances that was still learning how to be her true, most authentic self, no matter who she was with, no matter how many individuals supported her dreams. As a 31 year old adult as I write this answer, I know my self-esteem will waiver day to day but I no longer fear the fearless woman inside, who before she consciously realized as a young girl, felt at-home in front of others speaking and moving her body.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Who is Frances…

I’ve been a dancer since the age of 7. I went to The Quinte Ballet School of Canada, followed by The School of Contemporary Dancers to pursue the love of moving my body as an expression of art. All I wanted was to be paid to dance! But, as time passed, my soul longed for more. It wasn’t just about doing what I loved, it became about wanting to help people.
It wasn’t until 2011 at 19, I learned the fundamentals of Crossfit, that the idea of fitness as a living occurred to me. A few years later, I started working as a personal trainer with people from all backgrounds, body types, and personalities. I loved it. I was living a healthy, proactive and productive life, however something was missing. A nagging feeling of unfulfillment followed me as I worked to burnt-out and tried everything to find an answer as to ‘why’.
By 2019, I’d had enough. I’d called my Mom in tears, overwhelmed and confused. I had the business, partner, home and all the other fixings that should have equaled happiness. So I left Canada in search of more and only returned due to COIVD19.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t return home with some life-changing awakening. It wasn’t until I was back in Canada and re-established that I was presented with the missing piece to my true direction. I found Human Design, or rather, it found me. Human Design gave me a greater sense of self. It gave me the permission to listen to myself without fear. My business and brand, The Fearless Project Ltd is where I combine fitness and Human Design. My promise to the world isn’t just a lofty statement to become the happiest, healthiest you (though that’s part of the plan!). It’s about understanding yourself at a deeper level, like I try to do everyday, so you can connect to your body, mind, spirit and the people in your life more authentically.
January 31st 2022 was just another ‘ordinary’ day in my life that I didn’t think much of at the time when hopping on a call with a girlfriend who was going to introduce me to the Human Design system. In January of 2022 I was deep into trying to understand what a ‘first Saturn return’ meant in the world of astrology. I was also trying to figure out where in the world my personal training business was going long-term. At this point in my career I had trained a lot of clients/classes, opened a gym and had gone through a pandemic and knew that a big change was coming. A girlfriend of mine saw that I posted quite consistently to my Instagram Stories that I was ‘into’ pop astrology, tarot cards and was a mystical being. My girlfriend was true to her design, shot me a DM and then we booked a call.

I was presented with something new that my body got excited about. I am what they call a ‘Pure Generator’. I engage with my world and my gut gets excited and energized when I interact with something that is meant to come across my path. Throughout my life I have made decisions that don’t ‘quite make sense’ to others in the moment, and that is my body; my gut as a Generator telling me what to do. Have you ever made a decision that you can’t quite ‘logically’ explain? That would be the part of your body and design that is propelling you through life in the way you are specifically meant to.
I am a believer in practicing what you preach. I experiment with my own energy type and design every day of my life. The cool thing however, is that I have been following my design since the day I was born, I just wasn’t aware of it. Before knowing what Human Design was, at the age of 5, my parents took me to see the production of Riverdance. That was the start of my journey in becoming a dancer. I loved what I saw so much, or, now I could say that my body/gut was so excited seeing these dancers, lights and music that I asked my parents if I could start Irish Step-Dancing. Since there was no Irish Step-Dancing teacher in Muskoka ON, they enrolled me in Scottish Highland dance lessons instead. 15 years later, three major dance styles tried, tested and loved, one Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree attained, I set out on a new adventure, becoming a personal trainer.
I got into the world of fitness in university while going to The School of Contemporary Dancers full-time. My first boyfriend showed me how to squat in his basement with the dowel from a foosball table. Post break-up I really, really wanted to get a pull-up because I remembered the day I could not do one when I was asked. I googled Crossfit gyms in Winnipeg MB and went to the first one in my feed in February of 2011 and you guessed it, the rest is history. 13 years later, multiple certifications, clients coached, fitness competitions won and lost, co-founding a gym at the age of 25, here we are at 31 navigating the next unfolding chapter.

Our bodies are always trying to tell us where to go, what to do, who to talk to, what to eat, where to live. We do not have to ‘master-mind’ our life in our thoughts, we co-create our reality with what is already presented to us. We do not have to model how our business should run and/or look based on how someone else has been successful. Human Design gives us the permission to remember and love our fearless qualities that we’ve been using since birth to achieve what our souls truly desire.
As a Generator I go out into the world everyday and respond to what’s in front of me. I have to get my hands dirty in life, just like any other human being. My gut will tell me ‘yes’ do that, or ‘no’ you can pass. I do not have to second guess my choices. Just in how my life moved forward with trying multiple dance styles, I have become an expert in numerous avenues of health and fitness — choosing to only do things that excite my body so that I receive the next divine moment to respond to. Have I learnt along the way? YES! I have said yes to things that were more of a learning curve than an immediate success. Should I have said ‘no’ to things that I said yes to, absolutely! But that is one, only called being a human and two, learning what is a true yes and a true no in my body as opposed to listening to the conditioned ideas within my mind from my past and the world around me.
Even after knowing what my design is, do I still say yes to things that should be a ‘no’, YES! You know what, I’m actually proud to say that because that means I am again, only human. Only 31 years old, trusting my experiences so far and really trying to just live my life as honest and wholesome as I can.
Would I change anything that has happened to me that I ‘should or shouldn’t have said yes to since knowing my design? No. I feel I have learnt more about myself in two years than I ever have, and there has been A LOT of growth through hardship since 2019, that is for sure!
All I want to do is say yes to life. To say yes to the things, people and places that excite me, that I love. To feel everything I experience to the fullest, because that is what life is all about. Feeling what true love, loss, excitement, laughter, jealousy and anger are. I want to share my experiences, whatever they may be with everyone I come into contact with, which honestly just excites me more! By being myself, I deeply know that I enrich the lives of the people I touch, of the people I love. For they believe in me and I wholeheartedly believe in them and their fearless capabilities to do what they truly love.
To close, I’ll write something that is quite shocking.
The paragraph above is a description of what in Human Design is called life theme. It is actually my life theme, written in my own words.
As a Human Design expert, I mention life theme right away because it is the closest thing in our designs that we can say is like a ‘job description’. Life theme represents the most prominent energy that our body and soul wants to bring forward through what we do in this lifetime.
Here is a description of my life theme that can be found on the world-wide wide:
To spark passion and interest in others — A natural enthusiast, you’re here to spread the word about whatever you’re excited about. It’s not just the subject of what you’re talking about that people are benefiting from, but also the injection of positivity you give. In order for that to happen, you have to make sure you’re following what excites you rather than what you ‘think’ others want to hear or what is cool or right or good to focus on. Share whatever your body and self are passionate about today, and be totally open to being shown exactly how that looks for you in this moment. That’s your secret sauce to success. Keep spreading whatever you’re into, and don’t question it. Mic-drop!
May 11th 2024, in downtown Toronto, ON Canada, The Fearless Project Ltd will have its official re-launch both live and online workshop/celebration. I plan on teaching a 90 minute workshop that will involve movement, meditation, human interaction and teaching to invigorate and excite attendees to embrace their fearless bodies and designs.
The Fearless Project Ltd will inspire millions of people world-wide to realize their life is a once-upon-a-time adventure with their own instruction manual built in; they don’t have to follow anyone else’s footsteps in order to achieve everything they want and more!
It has taken two years to understand and build my own voice in the rapidly expanding Human Design community. I want to eradicate not just the health and fitness industry but how the entire world has told itself that we need to do things a certain way in order to be successful. Every single human is designed to live their life their way and only by getting quiet and listening to our bodies are we going to be able to do so.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Acknowledging that every connection, no matter how long or short, has the possibility to become an important/impactful relationship and/or event in our lives.
2) Self-Awareness Tools: Therapy, counselling, self-help novels, breath-work therapy, Shamanic healing, plant medicine, hydrotherapy, sleep, self-reflection journaling
Without these tools and learning more about myself and my personal soul journey as well as mental conditioning, I would not have the awareness and strength to service clients with the professionalism and level of care that I offer. Let alone, navigate my own personal life and foster health, abundance and love wherever and with whoever I meet.
3) Allow time to pass in the practice of your area of excellence:
I have been dancing since I was 7, I am now 31. Learning choreography is ‘easy’ for me, but that has also taken time. I have been teaching individuals how to squat for almost 10 year now, making a workout routine for someone takes me 5 minutes, however, once upon a time it took me 30 minutes. I can read someone’s human design graph and know what I need to speak to them about without second guessing myself. That is after hours and hours of reading different graphs and speaking to different types of people.
Advice that I have for folks who are early in their journey on how they can best develop these areas:
1) Allowing yourself to fail; you do not need to be afraid of trying again and again, it’s how your soul is designed to learn and grow.
2) Give yourself compassion in all areas of life.
3) You do not need anyone else to give you a sense of certainty. You can fulfill that role, solidifying that you can and will achieve what you desire.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
If I only had a decade left to live, I would spend it doing exactly what I am currently doing. Living fearlessly. Dancing everyday and seeing where it takes me instead of worrying if I’ll be able to put food on the table at the end of the day. I would try to spend more time with my blood family, as much as I have felt like a lone wolf the majority of my life. I would see my best friend and her family more than I already do and try to be a little less ‘hard’ on myself when I feel as though I have chosen the ‘wrong’ thing to say ‘yes’ to.
I would keep speaking honestly to the world about The Fearless Project Ltd, human design and understanding the body through movement and how that by knowing my energetic design has changed my life forever.
