Meet George Dennehy

We were lucky to catch up with George Dennehy recently and have shared our conversation below.

George , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Being born without arms, I’ve had to face the choice of either being resilient or giving up. There have been times in my life when I have wanted to give up. However, it has become a conscious decision to overcome the bad days and the negative thoughts. Along with that, believing in and knowing that I have a purpose is what keeps me going and is what has brought me to who I am today, someone who is resilient and content in any circumstance!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a full time motivational speaker & musician. Since 2012, I have dedicated my life to sharing my story of adoption & overcoming challenges. It’s my passion and dream to inspire others to overcome the various challenges in their own lives so that they too can achieve whatever it is they want. And through playing music with my feet, people can see that really anything is possible and that their dreams are not at all far fetched. I believe that every person has a purpose and every life matters. It took me a while to get to the place of loving myself and I experienced a hard season of darkness. I always share the good and the bad parts of my life, as I know that everybody has dark days. What matters most is how we face those emotional challenges and how we learn from them

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hope – having hope makes all the difference in the world. It’s what personally keeps me going even when life is chaotic or my disability is challenging me. I have hope in my future and in the bigger picture of life. My challenges are part of the story that I am thankful for

Resiliency – the ability to overcome and keep moving forward even when it’s hard. For me, it’s a practice and a character trait. It makes all the difference in the act of overcoming

Perspective – how I choose to see things often determines the outcome of those things. Having the right perspective gives me the strength to approach the challenges in my life with a thankful and strong heart

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is really anyone who is looking for a speaker for their company, event, church, school etc who will leave a lasting impact and inspire the audience in a new and fresh way. I bring something unique in my presentation that I am proud of and honored to be able to do! A few specific groups that I specialize in are; Disability conferences
Adoption conferences
Anti bullying rallies
Churches
Corporate meetings with an emphasis on teamwork & resiliency
Non profit fundraisers
