We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bee Yelo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bee below.
Bee , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I would have to say my resilience comes from within. I learned from others that giving up ultimately will betray my will and ego. So I know I have to keep on going for myself and my happiness. I am big on putting me first. I also understand life happens and not everything will go my way. As much as we all want to be the main character in this world – it just isn’t so. I understand stuff happens, I have to get over it, or roll with the punches. However at the end of the day, I know I will recover,
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Bee Yelos ROOTS
Since I was a kid I was a very independent person, creative and never like to be told what to do or to work as a team or unit. It did not matter if it was with my siblings, cousins, friends or strangers. For someone reason I just always thought not would could help me like I could help me. Boy was I wrong, but it gave me the push I needed to be independent and to put myself out there. When I was 19 I tried to start a company with some friends. It was me that ended up doing everything, for the most part. At the time the person I was dating drew designs that I was the brainchild of. But my hands just couldn’t articulate it onto the paper! Their three friends were also apart of the company, so a total of 5 of us. Ultimately I told them if they can’t show up – they need to leave the company. So it was just me. I ended up getting the brand into three stores in Columbus, Ohio and met some great people along the way. Thats started my love for fashion, small businesses and shopping at Brick & Mortar. So my goal was to go to school for fashion and to start a global clothing brand or open up some stores across the states. A few years later I was going to school for Residential Contracting and still doing the clothing on the side. Another love of mine is everything about the building process and remodeling process homes.
In 2011 I started going to Ai of Indianapolis. This is where I opened my first Brick & Mortar for my clothing store. I altered opened store in Columbus, Ohio – Cincinnati, Ohio and Los Angeles, California. I love fashion most of all but I went through a bad breakup and I just wanted a break and wanted to try something new. So I was watching a plant Youtube channel and instantly fell in love with the idea or something something from nothing. Being able to not make life but get it alive and improve my quality of life while doing do. I never knew something could bring me so much joy. Getting my hands dirty, and seeing something grow because of me was so beautiful. Before this, living things scared me, killing something gives me so much anxiety. Which is why I have no pets or kids. I neglect myself, so I know I would unintentionally neglect something else. So knowing myself, I stay away from living things. So, Yelo Aple was born!
Yelo Aples ROOTS
The idea of Yelo Aple started simply by the love of plants. Our Founder is a huge believer in the benefits of plants in your space. But before we get into that, let us tell you a little about our Founder. Bee is an entrepreneur thats always struggled with anxiety and they feel plants have really changed things for them.
Before Yelo Aple, Bee Founded a Clothing store. Even though it was a clothing store, they always had a small capsule of Plants in the stores, the plants just made them feel really good. They plants gave them something to care for and it was something that they could watch grow. It was soon noticed that the plants were a conversation starter and people gravitated towards them when walking into the stores. So plants become a bigger part of the store and they began to sell plants. One thing lead to the next! A few years later Yelo Aple was born and the Clothing Stores were closed..
Bee believes that plants can heal and help a lot of people. Here are some of the HEALTH BENEFITS OF HOUSE PLANTS. We all know about Aloe Vera and the anti-inflammatory properties. But did you know it also helps to remove harmful chemicals from the air and can reduce anxiety. Another common plant that is self-proclaimed as a beach bum, the Sago Palm is another favorite house plant. It’s an air purifying plant that adds moisture into the atmosphere to remove toxins that increase worry, stress, and anxiety. It’s also incredibly easy to care for. So, add this plant in your bedroom and household for optimal wellness and mindfulness. A few other are English Ivy, The Red Edged Dracaena, Snake Plants and so many other. Stop in to learn about all of the benefits!
OUR APLE
Yelo Aple is pronounced “Yellow Apple”. Not to get biblical but the Apple started it all. Yelo Aple was LIFE changing for our Founder so it was fitting. As for Yellow, yellow is the color most associated with optimism and happiness, as well as creativity. It is not the calming color that blue is, but it definitely has the ability to make people happier because it is also associated wit warmth – maybe because of the sun. Yellow is also pretty unique as there are no “DARK YELLOWS”. (just a little color psychology for you)

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience – You have to be willing to go that extra mile. You have to understand that you will have ups and down. You can’t quit, you cannot everything to be rainbows and beach views. It will be hard, it will be touch.
Work Ethic – You have to put in the work. All the money in the world won’t make a perfect business. You have to work on it and at it.
Knowledge – You have to know about your product or services. Doing the pandemic we saw all these people doing things just because they could. Where are they now? I tell people all the time, you must know what you are doing and why you are doing it. Even if you are good at it, you must know it.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The current challenge I am facing is do I open another brick & mortar? Do I just focus online and how do I get my services out there. I would love to do in-home services and online plants full-time. But sometimes I run into some uncomfortable situations or people wanting to abuse my kindness. They will hire me for a consultation but once I arrive they want me to work or want me to tell them what to do so they don’t have to hire me to do the work. So I am trying to figure that out. Also I also closed my store to focus more on Tiktok and Youtube but now I feel like my store was a good percentage of the content. So having store closure regret/guilt.
