Meet Heather Usher

We were lucky to catch up with Heather Usher recently and have shared our conversation below.

Heather, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
Haters , nay-sayers , negative people don’t pay your bills or contribute to your happiness . I used to aim to please everyone in my 20’s and once I realized it was literally impossible I started focusing on the good things that life has to offer. My amazing family and all the things I can accomplish myself ✨

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been doing hair for almost 10 years. I’ve been in my own personal hair studio for a little over a year now in Chandler and it’s been amazing . Just building it from the ground up and seeing it thrive has been a highlight for me . I recently tried to live in San Diego and starting my career over just seemed like it wasn’t the right fit , so when I moved back to AZ it wasn’t a set back at all it just allowed me to be the busiest I’ve ever been ✨

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The things that have helped me thrive and be the most impactful is being genuine . In both my bartending career and hair career that has been the quality people have told me they love the most . Especially in the service industry , sooo many people are unkind and rude so when people meet me I love that they compliment the way I treated them . It makes all the difference . I wish the world had more kind people .

Communication , that’s a given . You need this with your business with your relationships and when you are behind a bar working . Without communication what do you have ???? All my clients love how communicative I am with them , it makes them feel like they are cared about and that they can reach out when they need anything .
Be adventurous , I love my spontaneous adventures whether they are with people or not , they are the best part of life . Get outside , go explore , go see art ✨ it’s what life is all about

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
I think the number one challenge for me personally and as a business owner is thinking I’m not good enough .

That’s a tough one to always think

But the thing that helps is the smile my clients have after I do their hair

The reviews I get after their service and the constant love I get back from my friends . It encourages me to keep going
