Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Autumn Kinkade . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Autumn, so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?
I believe the conditions that helped me develop such empathy for others is via my cerebral palsy because it’s helped me realize that people are going through struggles as well and it’s important to show empathy within your own struggles so that others can look to you for their own empathy and strength from how you handle your own situation.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an ordained minister so I officiate weddings and funerals and an author of my book called cerebral palsy can’t stop me. I’m also a motivational speaker. The most exciting part for me is knowing that I’m making a difference one ability at a time all around the world. To see the results of people inspired from my journey and experience is what it’s all about. That’s what I live for, I want people to see Gods goodness in my life and want to know Him because of my story and what he’s done in me and through me .
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three most important skills I believe you can always take with you are: Honesty it’s in important to be authentically you . Honesty is the best policy be you don’t be anyone else. Be the best you you can be! Character Is a big part of it as well it’s not only who you’re on the outside but on the inside most importantly. Wisdom: the knowledge to know what is right from wrong and the wisdom and strength to keep going even when the going gets tough it’s all worth it in the end.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
My advice to you all would be to dig deep into prayer and say positive affirmations about yourself. Because remember after all it’s just a thought you have the ability to change your thinking. I personally do this and also listen to music is the best thing you can do.
