Meet Joe/Marc Faber/Neuman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joe/Marc Faber/Neuman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe/Marc, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
We have both always had passion for helping people, wellness, and fitness with a vision of opening a business one day. After struggling to figure out something to add to our personal training businesses for years we both got introduced to fascial stretch therapy, which was a game changer. We saw the impact it had on clients and noticed that most of them were more interested in the recovery and stretching vs the actual workouts. After seeing the trends we new we had something here so we created and eventually opened up StretchWerks and we ran with it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Marc Neuman and Joe Faber, with a combined experience of over 25 years in the health and fitness industry, initially focused on strength training as NASM certified personal trainers. However, they recognized the pivotal role that flexibility, mobility, and recovery play in overall health improvement.

Their journey led them to the Stretch to Win Institute, the Grey Institute, and eventually culminated in the establishment of StretchWerks, the North Shore’s premier centers for flexibility and mobility.

At StretchWerks, they’ve assembled a dedicated team of professionals, all driven by the common goal of enhancing the health, wellness, and athletic performance of their members. The center employs cutting-edge techniques of Fascial Stretch Therapy to create individually tailored, safe, and effective programs that help members move better and ultimately live better.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful are resilience, adaptability, and continued learning.

The ability to bounce back from setbacks and persevere through challenges has been crucial in starting a business especially a concept that was not proven. Developing resilience involves cultivating a growth mindset, embracing failure as a learning opportunity, and maintaining a positive attitude even in the face of adversity, such as opening up StretchWerks right before the pandemic and the entire world shutting down. Our advice to those early in their journey is to view obstacles as stepping stones rather than roadblocks. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and keep pushing forward, even when the path seems daunting.

The second quality is adaptability. In a rapidly changing world (pandemic, recession, etc…) adaptability is essential for success. Being open to new ideas, willing to learn new skills, and able to pivot when circumstances change is super important. It’s about being flexible (no pun intended) and proactive in responding to challenges and opportunities. To those starting out, we encourage you to be open to change, seek out new experiences, and continuously strive to expand your knowledge and skillset . Be open to feedback, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. I would even suggest surrounding yourself with great people!

The third quality is continuous learning. This is super relavant not only as a business owner but in our line of work as a therapist. To be at the cutting edge of injury prevent, recovery, and enhanced performance relative to flexibility and mobility is essential. Plus lifelong learning is the key to personal and professional growth. Staying curious, seeking out new knowledge, and investing in self-improvement are essential habits for success. To any newcomers, prioritize learning and skill development. Set aside time each day for learning something new, whether it’s related to your field of interest or a completely different topic.
