We caught up with the brilliant and insightful D. Keith Pigues a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
D. Keith, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
The path to finding my purpose was ignited by a book and study by Rick Warren — A Purpose Driven Life. I read the book and completed the study over twenty years ago and it resulted in me discovering my purpose which is: To help people get more out of work and life than they ever thought possible. Being the business person I am, a self-proclaimed creative-analytic, I went beyond the model and framework in the book and added to the purpose statement, to include the special gifts and abilities God gave me to bring the purpose to life. They are speaking, writing, teaching, coaching and advising. Since that time of discovery, literally, everything I’ve done has been aligned with my purpose.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I lead three companies, Luminas Strategy, CulTRUE and E210 Holdings.
Luminas is a business strategy boutique management consultancy where we help Fortune 1000 and mid-market companies develop strategies to accelerate organic growth. We help theses business leaders answer what we believe is one of the most important questions: Do your customers make more money doing business with you? Our unique approach and consulting methodology uses data and analytics to help clients answer this question with confidence and make more confident decisions in selecting the areas of investment to enable the customer-centric organic growth strategy. We also help major nonprofits deliver great
Impact to their key stakeholders.
CulTRUE is an early-stage SaaS enterprise software company where we help organizations answer a critically important question: Does your organization have the culture you say it does? We use the proprietary scientifically-validated model, and associated data, analytics and artificial intelligence, to help employees discover what truly contributes to their fulfillment in their relationship with their employer, while helping the company better understand how to retain and attract employees to increase performance. There has never been a more important time in the history of business to ensure companies get this right!
E210 Holdings is a company that houses my speaking engagements, advisory services to help selective early-stage entrepreneurs gain traction, and executive coaching. I have spoken globally for over two decades on the topics of Career Success, Leadership Development, Customer Centricity and Organic Growth, Company Culture and other topics.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
There are two that stand out for me. These two ingredients have become the two-pronged approach that I share with others seeking to advance on their journey. I believe to be successful, however one defines success, it is essential to be a “nerd” with relationships. It is critical to have something of real value to contribute — you must be good at something. If this something delivers value that is not available from others, you can have an even greater impact and achieve greater success. However, the nerd in you is not sufficient for success. Equally important is the ability to develop relationships with others — particularly people who can support and advance your interests, as well as those who can help you grow and develop. Relationships make the world go round!
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My late father, Alonzo Pigues., was born to a sharecropper family in a small town in Arkansas and moved to Memphis, TN (my hometown) in his late teens to make a better life and became a successful entrepreneur.
I had the blessing of working alongside my dad as a kid through undergraduate school. The lessons I learned were pivotal in my success and it is a blessing and honor to stand on his shoulders.
