We were lucky to catch up with Angela Lamb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose through my children. I had a health scare and was looking at various ways to take better care of myself. Then, my eldest daughter went to a summer camp that taught kid’s yoga and returned excited to share.
Being mindful and relaxing means giving people the tools and letting them take it from there. You must let them embrace the experience and make it their own which is why I break lessons down in to certain sections such as Share Circle, Breathing Exercise, Practice, Yoga Games and Meditation so they can easy do what section(s) they wish on a given day. When people personalize and customize mindfulness, they tend to use it for life.
Kids are more active than adults, but mindful- ness training made me calmer and more relaxed despite the hustle and bustle. Meanwhile, the classes provided special times for my children. We’d play games, practice yoga poses, and attempt different breathing exercises. I found myself less stressed and saw my kids better equipped with tools for a happier, healthier life.
That’s why I have enjoyed developing over 100 lessons so far, with 19 full lessons presented in my book. My hope is that it helps other families benefit from the gift of family yoga and mind- fulness. You should know that it’s okay to slow down, and they need to learn breathing exer- cises to help them stay cool, calm, and collect- ed. Taking a moment for yourself is acceptable and expected, we all need personal time, and imagination is the key to our happiness. Meditations for kids help engage the imagination, self-awareness, and compassion.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Angela Lamb, a lifelong creative and art director of photography, graphic design and 30 second TV commercials, never dreamed of becoming a filmmaker or author and certainly was not focused on health until her life was threatened by chronic illness. In the process of becoming well, she was driven to share the information to help others. Angela’s debut film was called “Un-Inflame Me: Reversing the American Diet & Lifestyle,” which followed her on her very own health journey overcoming a chronic illness. Angela’s first dive into a series, ”The Art of Natural Healing” docuseries returned to her passion of holistic health highlighting root cause medicine and giving others the tools for better health with two dynamic naturopathic doctors as hosts. Angela’s new series “Healthy Life Nation” highlights health optimization even further by pooling together an extensive selection of health experts and modalities giving viewers the latest cutting edge tools to be their best selves.
Angela is also a certified yoga instructor and author of “Bonding with My Bunnies: Yoga Lesson Plans for Families & Children. Angela loves to fuse her creativity with giving families tools for better health and relaxing bonding time.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The old adage if there is a will there is a way rings true here. Go after the life you want. I knew I did not want to be sick so health was important, quality time with my kids is important and I have an internal need to be creative. It is simply who I am. Determination is key. A will to never give up no matter how many obstacles get in the way also pulled me through and a forever thirst to learn. You are never too old to try something new.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am inclusive by nature. As an obese child I was often teased by other kids at school and excluded from activities. I never want anyone to experience that loneliness. And as a business owner and a creative who is creating health films and books in the suburbs of the Midwest I often feel like a single soldier beating to her own drum alone. As a past creative for Fortune 500 companies and living in New York City for over a decade, I know what is like to be surrounded by other creative entrepreneurial passionate beings that fuel you and support your passions. I would love to collaborate with other yoga instructors, health authors, filmmakers, experts. I believe in the power of community and like minds.
