We were lucky to catch up with Charlotte Rodriguez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlotte, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
As someone with a humble beginning I was taught from a young age that being a business professional with a corporate job was the only acceptable way to have a stable income, to be able to provide for myself and to be successful. Never was I encouraged to follow my dreams or to explore other options. It wasn’t until later in life that I took a leap of faith, ditched the stable path, found my passion, and turned that into my career.
Ever since I can remember I have cared about people in some form or another. If someone was hurt, I wanted to care for them, if someone was sad, I wanted to make them feel better, if someone was struggling, I wanted to encourage them. I realized that I did these types of things in every role or position I ever had. That is when the lightbulb went off and I realized my passion is making people feel good about themselves. Now the question was how do I implement that into a job or a career????
It took some digging and a few restarts to figure this out, but that is how I began my journey to become an Esthetician. I discovered this path allows me to care for others, help them achieve their wants and needs, support their achievements, and be their cheerleader along the way. I have built a career that I love centered on my passion to make people feel good about themselves.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an Esthetician and I help people rebuild their confidence and eliminate the need to use filters. Everything I do is designed to make someone feel better about themselves through their appearance. It makes me so happy when I can help someone feel comfortable in their own skin and they get excited at who they see looking back at them in the mirror.
Permanent Makeup can be intimidating, but for those have experienced the permanent loss of the hair in their eyebrows, eyelashes or lost the color in their lips this can be a game changer. I cannot replace the hair loss, but I can recreate the appearance of solid defined eyebrows, I can give the illusion of a full and dense lash line and I can bring color back to one’s lips through Permanent Makeup. It is such an amazing experience when your client looks at their results with tears in their eyes and says I love them so much, thank you.
In the world of AI, perfect skin is the expectation, but the hard reality is that no one has perfect skin. Most people have imperfections on their skin e.g. scarring, hyperpigmentation (dark spots), acne, signs of aging and dull or textured skin. I offer a variety of maintenance and advanced treatments to combat each of these concerns. I may not be able to get you airbrushed skin, but I can reduce or eliminate scars and hyperpigmentation through microneedling and chemical peels. I can treat and calm acne conditions through facials, targeted products, and high frequency treatments. I can help reduce the signs of aging and eliminate dull textured skin through facials and dermaplaning treatments. My clients light up when they see their before and after pictures after completing a series of treatments.
Who wants to wake up and look like a million dollars? I know my clients do. Most of us have busy lives and don’t have time or do not want to make the time for a full glam look on a daily basis. That is why they come to me. Eyelash Extensions give the face an enhanced look. They make the eyes look open and awake regardless of how rested one is or is not. They give the appearance of makeup with no makeup. All one has to do is wake up, wash their lashes, brush through them, and walk out the door. It doesn’t get any more simple than that. Although Eyelash Extensions require fill appointments every two weeks the amount of time saved for my clients with busy lifestyles is priceless.
These are just a few of the various services that I provide. I work with each client on an individual basis to understand their wants and needs. From there I make treatment and product recommendations to help them achieve their desired outcomes.
I consistently strive to exceed expectations in assisting my clients to achieve success. I provide post procedure follow up within the first 48 hours after every treatment. For advanced treatments (Permanent Makeup, Microneedling, Chemical Peel) I provide a detailed daily after care instruction sheet along with post care kits that includes all the skin care products needed for their recovery process. For new lash clients I provide them with a lash bath kit to clean and maintain their lashes to prevent build up, help with retention, and preserve the health of their natural lashes.
My approach is different than the standard salon or spa as my clients are not just another name or face, they are now a part of my journey as I am with theirs.
If you are curious about any of the treatments or services referenced above, schedule your free consultation today. Let’s start a conversation on what I can do to help you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being a good listener, patience, and ongoing education have been the keys to my success. These were things on my journey I had to work through and acquire over time. These are not skills that are achieved overnight these took years to build and finesse.
My advice to anyone coming up in or entering into this industry.
1. Don’t ever assume you know what a client wants, give them the opportunity to explain themselves and communicate it back to them to make sure you heard them correctly. You cannot help anyone if you do not listen to what they want or need. Many salons and spas have time restrictions but find a way to make this step happen it will help you refine your skills and build loyal clients.
2. Be patient, nothing happens overnight. Skills and knowledge are not a given, they take effort, time and lots of practice. The more effort and practice you put in the more perfected your skills will become. Put in the work it does pay off.
3. Most of all ongoing education. The Esthetics world is changing on a daily basis, and you are useless to anyone if you do not know the different options out there. Education does not always cost money, there are several free training courses and resources available. Seek them out and keep growing your knowledge.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I welcome connections or collaborations with doctors or medical professionals, educators, nutritionists, or anyone with knowledge in my industry. I am always looking to expand my knowledge and provide education to others.
