Meet Katelyn Myers

We were lucky to catch up with Katelyn Myers recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Katelyn with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Growing up with a mother who epitomized strength and determination, I learned firsthand the importance of having a strong work ethic. But more than that, I was inspired to use my passion for music to pave the way for other young girls like me. As I pursued my dream of a music career, I realized the significance of being a role model for young girls. I wanted them to see that it’s possible to chase your dreams, even in a male-dominated industry. My mother’s tireless efforts to support my aspirations taught me that gender should never be a barrier to success. I wanted to carry that message forward and show girls everywhere that they can achieve anything they set their minds to with hard work and determination. In the country music genre, I strive to inspire the next generation of female artists, just like my mother inspired me. I wanted them to see themselves reflected in the music they love and to know that their voices deserve to be heard. So, with each song I wrote, and each stage I performed on, I carried with me the responsibility of being a role model. I wanted girls to see strong, independent women making their mark in the world of country music and to know that they could do the same in whatever field they chose. My work ethic, instilled in me by my mother’s example, became not just a personal trait but a tool for empowerment. It’s a beacon of hope for young girls everywhere, showing them that with dedication, perseverance, and a little bit of grit, they can achieve their wildest dreams, no matter the odds. And in doing so, they can pave the way for a future where strong women are not just the exception, but the norm.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, TN, I’m deeply immersed in the rich musical culture of Music City. What excites me the most about my career is the opportunity to connect with people through my music. I believe that music has the power to touch hearts, evoke emotions, and create meaningful connections, and that’s what I strive to achieve with every song I write and perform. What sets my music apart is its authenticity and storytelling. I draw inspiration from my own experiences and observations, infusing each song with a piece of my soul. From the highs and lows of love to the beauty of everyday moments, my music reflects the human experience in all its complexities. My debut EP, “Railbird” is finally out, and I couldn’t be more proud. This collection of songs marks a significant milestone in my career, showcasing my growth as an artist and the culmination of countless hours of passion and dedication. I poured my heart and soul into every aspect of this EP, and I’m incredibly proud of the result. I believe that “Railbird” represents the essence of who I am as an artist, and I can’t wait for listeners to experience it for themselves. In addition to my music, I’m dedicated to using my platform to inspire and empower others, especially young girls who dream of pursuing careers in the music industry. I believe that representation matters, and I’m committed to being a positive role model for the next generation of female artists. As for what’s next, I’m focused on creating music that resonates with people and expands my reach as an artist. I’m always exploring new ways to push boundaries and challenge myself creatively, whether it’s through collaborations, live performances, or experimenting with different genres. Overall, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do what I love every day, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as the most impactful: resilience, authenticity, and continuous learning. Resilience has been crucial in navigating the ups and downs of the music industry. There were moments of rejection, setbacks, and doubt, but resilience allowed me to persevere and keep moving forward.
Authenticity has been the cornerstone of my music and personal brand. Being true to myself and my experiences has helped me connect with audiences on a deeper level and carve out a unique space in the industry.
Continuous learning has been essential for my growth and development as an artist. Whether it’s refining my songwriting skills, learning new techniques on the guitar, or trying to get better at producing, embracing a mindset of lifelong learning has been invaluable. For those early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience by embracing failure as a learning opportunity and staying committed to your goals despite obstacles. Stay true to yourself and your unique voice, as authenticity will set you apart in a crowded field. And never stop learning and growing; seek out opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my mother did for me was show me I am loved, despite the absence of my father in my life from a very early age. While my father’s absence left a void, my mother filled that gap with unwavering love, strength, and support. Growing up in a challenging environment, my mom showed immense courage by not only getting us out of an unfortunate situation but also working three jobs to provide for me. Her tireless efforts to ensure that I had every opportunity to pursue my dreams have shaped the person I am today. Despite the hardships she faced, my mother never wavered in her commitment to giving me the best possible life. Her sacrifices serve as a constant reminder of the power of determination. Moreover, my mother’s unwavering support in my music career has been the cornerstone of my journey. From my first piano lesson to pursuing my passion in Nashville, she has been my biggest cheerleader every step of the way. Her belief in me, even during moments of self-doubt, has been a source of inspiration. It’s her example of strength, determination, and unconditional love that has propelled me forward, even in the face of adversity. In essence, the most impactful thing my mom did for me was to show me that with resilience and perseverance, anything is possible. Without my mother’s support I know I would not be where I am today, nor would I be the woman I am today.
