Jacob , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I believe I get my work ethic from the wonderful people I have met through out my journey and of course all my teachers throughout life. I decided to pursue music back in 2015 and took that very seriously since then. I always admired all the amazing teachers through high school, and throughout my life. I took advantage of graphic design classes, business classes, video production classes, music classes, financial classes and computer classes. I didn’t grow up with a lot of money so I always knew in order to make anything possible in my life I have to work hard for it and give it my all. You have to want it more than you want to breathe.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Jacob Chavez also known as Vertex Remedy I am a DJ/Producer from Southern Colorado. I grew up in Denver Colorado in the early 2000’s and was heavily inspired by electronic dance music scene. When I was a child my mother was always listening to techno/house and I think thats where this crazy dream of mine started. I moved to Saguache, Colorado in 2012-2013 and decided to pursue what I have always dreamt of, 2 years later I picked up my first copy of FL Studio and the rest was history. Starting off I was known as DJ Exotic and mainly focused on Big Room House, Progressive House and, Deep House. Not til a year later did I realize I had a niche for Bass Music. Makes sense considering I came from the Bass Capital of the world and was heavily inspired by the Denver Scene. Thats when I made the decision to work on hard hitting bass music and launch my EDM Record label Proxinized Records and work under an entirely new alias Vertex Remedy. Vertex Remedy means head medicine and that to me is exactly what music is. I struggle with Mental Health and working on music to share with the world is the perfect medicine for myself and if you are anything like me listening to music helps and I want to be that help for people. Proxinized Records was only the beginning of a very long and hard project and that became what we all know and love today Proxinized Rebirth. Proxinized Rebirth has been in the works since early 2016 and has gone through lots of trial and error from getting contracts made to finding the right people to have involved. Just like anything else you fail and succeed and you learn throughout the process. One thing I had to ask myself is how can I stand out from all the other labels and I thought about myself. What is something that would be beneficial to a young upcoming artist like me and that was a supportive and helpful community and thats when I knew what Proxinized would stand for. Proxinized Rebirth officially launched in 2022 but has been in the works behind the scenes now I have a awesome partner who I reached out too in 2021 and his name is Alonzo Herrera and I cant thank him enough for seeing my vision and taking a huge leap of faith to help me accomplish this. I recently released my new 12 track album Dial Up that features artists from my label and a awesome back story that explains Vertex Remedy and the power to heal negativity through music I really recommend checking it out if you haven’t already it is available now on all platforms!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Discipline is key! I hate to say it and it definitely isn’t the easiest thing to do . That means working til the morning or missing out on events with friends, family, etc. That means asking yourself do I really want this and if your answer is no then what’s really the point? If your answer is Yes! that means I am going to do everything possible no matter how hard it is or how tired I am.

Be a leader! No matter if you are starting off or have been in the game for 10 years always look at the qualities of leader’s, especially the ones you look up too. Sometimes that means swallowing your pride and opinions and looking at the bigger picture. Respect your fellow producers, partners and colleagues they are the key players to your success! Get that all about me mind set out of your head because it will sink your career before it even starts that’s something we see a lot in this industry and it never ends well!

Mental Health is important! I cant even begin to explain how important your well being is. I learned this multiple times throughout the years. If your mind isn’t right your work isn’t going to be right either. Being lazy is one thing but when your mind just can’t create or process anymore it’s time to take a step back and think what do I need? As creators I think we program our minds unintentionally to provide content no matter what and if you aren’t creating you feel like you are falling behind and I say this from experience. Take care of you! You are the vision and you are your own boss if you feel like you need a week from your work station take it and come back even stronger!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for like minded individuals who want to leave a footprint behind like me. I have multiple friends with multiple passions and I always try to find a way to support them through my own projects. For example I have friends who are into Health & Wellness and I always let them use my music for their promotion work. I have friends who are in fashion and I help them with connections with clothing distributors and marketing tips.
