We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Callahan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Juggling work, school, competitive shooting and running a nonprofit event definitely takes a strong work ethic. I believe my work ethic comes from watching my parents and my ‘shooting family’ as I grew up. This people have all been strong influences on my life and showed me how much you can accomplish with hard work and perseverance.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The Merry Miracles Fun Shoot & Toy Drive is a sporting clays event that doubles as a toy drive. Over the past 8 years the event has raised over $154,000 for Children’s Hospital Colorado and many truckloads of toys! This year the event will be held at Great Guns Sporting in Nunn, CO on December 2nd, 2023. Shooters of all skill levels are welcome to come shoot, enjoy lunch, Christmas themed snacks and many prizes to be given away! Don’t forget to bring a toy to get $10 off your entry fee and your favorite Christmas outfit. Donations and sponsorships are also welcomed! For more information visit merrymiraclesshoot.com.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One quality that has been very impactful on my journey is perseverance. Things are not always going to go your way – throughout my journey I have had made many mistakes and rather than letting them break me I have learned from them and grew which has allowed me to be successful. Another skill that has been impactful is my patience. Being able to have poise and calmness during adversity and tough situations has allowed me to conquer many challenges. Last but not least having compassion is a huge part of what got me to where I am in my journey. Being able to put my struggles to the side to show up to help others is one of the most meaningful qualities.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past year, I have really tried to focus on not holding myself back. I have found that most of life I have consistently let fear hold me back from different opportunities. In the past year I have let go of this fear in many ways – keeping in mind how precious life is and that we must pursue our dreams and live life to the fullest no matter what might be holding us back.
