Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dwight Allen O’Neal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dwight Allen , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
To keep my creativity alive, I immerse myself in various creative outlets. For instance, I recently launched a micro-series called “Just 1 Minute” where I write, direct, and act in quick, comedic episodes. It’s not only a way to engage with my supporters but also a platform for me to continually challenge and develop my creative skills. Each one-minute episode offers a snapshot of my quirky adventures in Downtown LA, ensuring non-stop entertainment for viewers even during their busiest moments.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My journey in the entertainment industry has been a thrilling ride, defined by creativity, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. As a renowned influencer, multimedia director, producer, and personality, I’ve had the privilege of exploring various mediums and leaving my mark on each.
From my early days directing and producing television and film projects for acclaimed networks like Bravo TV and Here TV, to venturing into the literary world with best-selling novels like “Shoulda! Coulda! Woulda!” and “Collar Confessions,” my career has been a testament to versatility.
In 2022, I delved into writing and producing my own thriller series, “Go Go The Series,” which received rave reviews and showcased my ability to craft gripping narratives. But my creativity doesn’t stop there. As the host of Bigo Live’s exclusive daytime talk show, I connect with audiences in a dynamic and engaging way, bringing laughter and insight into their lives.
One of my proudest achievements is the documentary “Being Black in Porn,” which I co-produced and directed. This groundbreaking film sheds light on important social issues while exploring the lives of gay men of color in the adult film industry. Its success and critical acclaim reaffirm my commitment to using my platform for meaningful storytelling.
Now, I’m excited to introduce audiences to my latest project, “Just 1 Minute.” This micro-series offers quick bursts of laughter and insight into my fabulous life, perfectly tailored for even the busiest moments. With witty narration and comedic charm, “Just 1 Minute” promises endless entertainment and showcases my passion for connecting with audiences in unique and memorable ways.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that have been most impactful are:
1. Versatility: Being able to adapt and excel across various mediums has been crucial. Whether it’s directing a film, writing a novel, or hosting a talk show, versatility has allowed me to explore different avenues of creativity and reach diverse audiences.
My advice for those early in their journey is to embrace versatility. Don’t limit yourself to one skill or medium. Experiment, explore, and push your boundaries. Take on new challenges and be open to learning from every experience.
2. Creativity: Creativity is the lifeblood of the entertainment industry. It’s what sets you apart and allows you to create memorable and impactful work. Whether it’s coming up with innovative story ideas or finding unique ways to engage with your audience, nurturing your creativity is essential.
To develop and improve creativity, practice thinking outside the box. Surround yourself with diverse influences, from books and films to art and music. Keep a journal for jotting down ideas, no matter how wild they may seem. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to take risks and fail. Some of the best ideas come from embracing failure and learning from it.
3. Networking: Building strong relationships and networking within the industry has been instrumental in my journey. From collaborating with other creatives to connecting with industry professionals, networking opens doors and creates opportunities.
For those starting out, my advice is to network early and often. Attend industry events, join online communities, and reach out to fellow creatives. Be genuine in your interactions and focus on building meaningful connections. And don’t forget to pay it forward—helping others succeed can often lead to opportunities for yourself.
By focusing on versatility, nurturing creativity, and building strong relationships, you can set yourself up for success in the entertainment industry. Embrace the journey, stay true to your vision, and never stop learning and growing.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! I’m always on the lookout for potential collaborators who share my passion for creativity and entertainment. Whether you’re an established influencer or an up-and-coming talent looking to make your mark, I welcome the opportunity to partner and collaborate.
