Meet Kristy Hamilton, MD, FACS

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristy Hamilton, MD, FACS. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kristy, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence and self-esteem, to me, are qualities that have been cultivated through a combination of dedication, practice, and a supportive environment. From a young age, I was instilled with the belief that hard work and repetition are the cornerstones of success. This ethos has been my guiding principle throughout my career in plastic surgery. By focusing relentlessly on achieving excellence in outcomes for my patients, I’ve naturally built a strong sense of confidence in my abilities. Each successful surgery, each satisfied patient, adds another layer to that foundation, reinforcing my belief in the work I do and the positive impact it has.

Moreover, the importance of having a supportive family cannot be overstated. Growing up, my family was my cheerleading squad, constantly encouraging me to shoot for the stars and follow my dreams. This unwavering support provided me with a safety net to take risks and push beyond my comfort zone, which has been crucial in developing both my confidence and self-esteem.

In plastic surgery, where precision and perfection are paramount, the path hasn’t always been easy. There have been challenges and learning curves that required persistence and resilience. However, the combination of hard work, the pursuit of excellence, and a strong support system has not only shaped me into the surgeon I am today but also helped me develop a deep-seated confidence in my craft. This confidence is something I aim to pass on to my patients, helping them feel empowered and self-assured in their own skin. It’s a beautiful, full-circle moment every time a patient leaves my office not just looking, but feeling their best, and knowing I played a part in that transformation is incredibly rewarding.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
In opening Dr. Kristy Hamilton Plastic Surgery, I sought to create a holistic approach to beauty, blending artistry with the precision of medical science to enhance the natural beauty of my patients. My practice is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care in aesthetic plastic surgery and non-surgical beauty treatments. What makes this work truly exciting and special is the ability to transform lives, not just appearances. Witnessing the boost in confidence and self-esteem in our patients post-procedure is profoundly rewarding and drives our passion for excellence in everything we do.

My brand is synonymous with kindness, refinement, and innovation. I strive to stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the field, ensuring my patients have access to the most advanced treatments available. This dedication to innovation is evident in our recent addition of exosome regenerative therapy. This cutting-edge treatment, both as a standalone option and in conjunction with laser resurfacing procedures, represents the pinnacle of regenerative aesthetic medicine, offering unparalleled results in skin rejuvenation and healing.

From a surgical perspective, my passion lies in creating subtle, natural-looking enhancements that celebrate the individual’s unique beauty. Our “ballerina” breast augmentations, athletic applications of liposuction and fat transfer, as well as our comprehensive facial rejuvenation treatments, are all designed to harmonize and enhance the body’s natural contours, reflecting our commitment to elegance and aesthetics in plastic surgery.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled about several new developments. In April 2024, I will have the honor of participating in the Women in Medicine Fashion Show, supporting the Arts of Healing Foundation, an event that beautifully merges the worlds of medicine and art. Additionally, we are eagerly anticipating the opening of our new state-of-the-art medical practice and surgical center. This expansion will not only enhance our ability to offer a wider range of treatments but will also improve appointment availability for our valued patients.

Dr. Kristy Hamilton Plastic Surgery is more than a plastic surgery clinic — it is a place where art meets science, where each patient’s journey is handled with the utmost care, and where transformations are both seen and felt.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, the three pivotal elements that have profoundly influenced my path are the commitment to the Golden Rule, boundless optimism, and perseverance in the face of adversity. Treating patients and staff with the respect, kindness, and compassion I would expect for myself has not only fostered a positive and supportive environment but also built lasting relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

Boundless optimism, or the belief that the sky is the limit, has been a driving force in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in aesthetic plastic surgery and my practice. This mindset encourages innovation and creativity, which promotes the achievement of exceptional results for our patients.

Perseverance, especially when faced with challenges, has taught me the value of resilience. In the competitive and constantly evolving field of medicine, obstacles are inevitable. However, viewing each setback as an opportunity for growth has been crucial to my success.

For those at the beginning of their journey, my advice is to embrace these qualities wholeheartedly. Do not accept ‘no’ as a final answer—view it instead as a redirection towards a new opportunity. Start working toward your dream today, not tomorrow. Hard work, a positive outlook, and resilience in the face of challenges will propel you forward, turning your aspirations into reality.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
One of the most influential books in my professional journey has been “Extreme Ownership” by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. This book has profoundly shaped my approach to leadership within my practice and my interactions with my team and patients. The central tenet of the book, which argues that leaders must own everything in their world to the extent of taking full responsibility for the outcomes, has been transformative for me.

A few impactful nuggets of wisdom from the book that resonate deeply with my philosophy include the importance of clarity in communication. Willink emphasizes that as a leader, it’s essential to communicate your vision clearly and consistently, ensuring everyone on your team understands their roles and responsibilities. This has helped me ensure that my team is aligned with the practice’s goals and working cohesively towards them.

Another crucial lesson is the concept of decentralized command, which teaches that leaders should empower their team members to make decisions. This resonates with me because I do profoundly trust my team, which fosters a sense of responsibility and ownership in them. In turn, this empowerment improves our efficiency and quality of the patient care we provide.

Applying these principles from “Extreme Ownership” has not only enhanced my leadership skills but also the quality of care we provide at my practice, ultimately benefiting our patients.
