We recently connected with Marcus Gibson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Marcus with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I’d have to say my Grandmother Ms Bessie. She’s the person I seen over come so many obstacles and never gave up. 88 years old and she still does her own grocery shopping, still cooks for herself and the family. I’ve always been able to speak freely to her about anything and everything. Her advice is always golden.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
At this point in my journey I’m all about creative vibes and working with like minded people. In 2020 I released my own clothing line “Ugliest Print”. I use to draw these crazy “ugly” faces and cartoons. I decided to start dabbling with T Shirts with help from a good friend of mine Max we made that happen. He also has a dope clothing brand “Black Birds”. For me Music, Art, and Fashion all go hand in hand so I think it was only right for me to have my own clothing brand.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I first started doing music years ago I noticed that I didn’t do too much overthinking. Once I had the initial idea it usually led me down a series of rabbit holes until I ended up with something I felt was dope. I also feel its necessary to collaborate with other creative people. That helped alot early in my career just being able to toss ideas around and most of the time the final result was more than satisfactory. Don’t be afraid to imagine, don’t be afraid to tinker, let your comfort zone become your last resort. Challenge yourself and do the research on whatever it is you’re passionate about.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My family has always been a great support system and for that I’m blessed. My parents always showed interest in what I was doing. I’ll never forget my mom asking me what radio station I was listening to lol whole time it was me in my room making a beat. I think I was like 14 she kept saying play it again. My son and my daughter keep me motivated. They’re the reason I get up every day and strive for greatness.
