Meet Carine-Ange Tagni, MD

We were lucky to catch up with Carine-Ange Tagni, MD recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carine-Ange , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being the only one in the room that looks like me has its challenges, but I have learned to leverage my unique perspective and experiences to be effective and successful. As a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with a decade of experience, I have often been the only Black woman in the room—someone with African heritage who speaks French and rolls her ‘R’ differently.

Early on, I realized the importance of believing in my own place in the room. My journey has been grounded in my knowledge, training, and passion for my field. It’s natural to feel uncomfortable in new spaces, but I see my presence as an opportunity to break down barriers and challenge unspoken norms.

Preparation and embracing my uniqueness have been key to building my confidence and communicating effectively. During moments of self-doubt, I’ve discovered my resilience and adaptability, which have allowed me to navigate diverse spaces while wearing different hats.

By speaking up to empower myself and others, I’ve built strong alliances and fostered a sense of belonging. These experiences have shaped me into a stronger and more confident professional.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello! I’m Dr. Carine-Ange Tagni, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist and the Founder of Sibelle MedSpa Women’s Health and Aesthetics. People often ask me why I do what I do, and to answer simply, my work is a tool to empower women to embrace who they are at every stage of their lives.

SiBelle MedSpa Women’s Health and Aesthetics was named after my grandfather’s nickname for me “SiBelle” meaning “so beautiful” in French. His words profoundly shaped my self-esteem and how I carried myself, leading me to realize that every woman deserves to feel beautiful and seen. This experience inspired my passion for women’s health and the creation of SiBelle MedSpa.

I created the practice out of my belief that intimate wellness is essential for overall well-being. Throughout my career, I witnessed many women struggle with feelings of embarrassment or disconnect due to changes from postpartum or menopause. These transformations can impact normal pelvic floor function, leading to issues like urinary incontinence or painful intercourse, sometimes compounding trauma from childbirth. Such challenges can affect intimacy and partner connections. Imagine having to avoid activities you love, whether it’s going for a jog or playing at the park with your kids, out of fear of accidental leaks. Constantly living with that anxiety profoundly impacts self-esteem.

At SiBelle MedSpa, we merge medical expertise with rejuvenation artistry, offering a sanctuary focused on sexual wellness and intimate health concerns. Our mission champions women’s confidence, comfort and holistic well-being through tailored treatment solutions. Every service and detail nurtures you.

Looking ahead, SiBelle MedSpa, through our Intimate Wellness focus, aims to set new standards in women’s intimate health care and empowerment. We’re committed to making these conversations accessible, stigma-free and empowering, guiding women to informed, positive decisions about their well-being and embracing their most empowered selves.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I believe the three qualities that had the greatest impact on my journey were compassion, perseverance, and an insatiable curiosity to keep learning.

Compassion allowed me to connect with patients on a deeper level and truly understand their experiences, fears, and hopes. It guided my care approach to be empathetic and nurturing. For those early in their healthcare journeys, I advise cultivating compassion by actively listening without judgment, imagining yourself in your patient’s shoes, and bringing warmth to every interaction.

Perseverance was essential in overcoming the inevitable challenges that arose – whether institutional barriers, self-doubt, or work-life balancing acts. There were many times I wanted to give up, but persevering through difficulties ultimately shaped my resilience. My advice is to expect hurdles, have a support system, and find healthy outlets, but never lose sight of your “why” that fuels you.

Finally, an insatiable curiosity drove me to remain a lifelong learner. Medicine is constantly evolving, and I’m passionate about seeking out the latest research, treatments and cutting-edge solutions to best serve my patients. For the early career professionals, read voraciously, ask questions endlessly, and surround yourself with others who will challenge your thinking and push you to grow.

Compassion, perseverance, and curiosity created a powerful combination that shaped my ability to empathetically care for patients while tirelessly enhancing my medical knowledge and offerings. I hope they can similarly inspire the next generation of healthcare providers.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I’ve found it crucial first to pause and simply breathe. Taking a few deep breaths helps me regain composure and clarity in the moment.

From there, I assess what’s causing the overwhelming feeling – is it an unmanageable workload, difficulties at home, or something more internal like self-doubt? Getting to the root issue allows me to address it properly.

If it’s work-related, I prioritize tasks, delegate what I can, and adjust deadlines if possible. At home, enlisting support from family or considering outsourcing chores can remove some burdens. When it’s more of an internal struggle, I reflect through journaling and meditation to realign my perspective.

Ultimately, taking a complete break through a restorative personal trip has been one of the most recharging things for me. Fully disconnecting, changing scenery, and allowing myself to reset mentally has an incredible way of easing overwhelm.

My advice is to prioritize your well-being by having personalized de-stressing strategies at the ready – deep breathing, reorganizing tasks, reaching out for help, journaling, meditating and making time for restorative getaways when possible. Don’t let overwhelm pile up unmanaged. Remember, caring for yourself is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
