Meet Sophia Cerrito

We were lucky to catch up with Sophia Cerrito recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
For many years of my life my confidence was predicated around the way I looked physically and for most woman, including myself, that is something that is always changing and evolving, so to only feel confident in myself when I felt good physically was so exausting and honestly a pretty empty feeling. As I have gotten older and grown to know myself and love myself, I have truly found my confidence from within and the way I look has become the least interesting thing about me. My confidence comes from truly believing in my intellect, the way I make people feel, my humor and my wit. I would be lying if I said I felt one hundred percent confident everyday, and as a dancer especially, the way I look does play a big part in my life, but to be able to rely on who I am to my core Is a much more sustainable source of confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Sophia Cerrito im from New York City and I am 27 years old. I moved to Los Angeles, CA when I was 18 right after signing with my dance agent, MSA. I. have been dancing in LA ever since. As I have grown and evolved I have started to explore different career paths including influencing which shows more behind the scenes of my life, my personality, and my interests aside from dance. I have also started to brainstorm and am starting the process of creating a dance clothing company, which combines two of my passions dance and fashion. I also filmed a tv show over the summer called Love Undercover premiering on Peacock May 9th!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things that I have learned throughout my journey which i think would be helpful to others are, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. I believe that when you are out of your comfort zone you are able to grow and prove to yourself that you are capable of more than you think. Another thing that Ive learned is to not be afraid to ask for help. I believe that your 20s are for learning and making mistakes and there is nothing wrong with not having everything figured out, and seeking help along the way. Lastly I have learned that truly believing in yourself and being confident will get you the farthest in life even on the days you don’t really believe it. Continuing to believe in how capable and unique you are is what makes you stand out and accomplish your goals.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
For many years of my life I struggled with anxiety and never really dealt with it, I just ignored it and suffered in silence. In the past couple months I started talking to a therapist and started taking medication and it has completely changed my day to day life. Throughout this process I have learned that if you’re are struggling, either mentally or physically, there is nothing wrong with asking for help and there’s always hope and a solution. I really want to dismantle the negative stigma around mental health and believe it isn’t something to be ashamed of and hopefully the more awareness that is spread around it will help people to not feel so alone.
