Meet Jennifer Railey, D.C.

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Railey, D.C. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Being a young professional out of school it was very difficult to feel like I deserved the title of doctor. The realization that someone’s health is in your hands was also very eye opening. People trust you and to live up the an expectation of being a healer and possibly being the answer to someone’s prayer was humbling. After seeing the power of chiropractic and realizing that it isn’t just up to me but the body has its own innate ability to heal itself I realize I am not an imposter! I am just here not only to guide the patient by giving them recommendations to perform between visits but also align the spine and joints to allow the central and peripheral nervous systems to communicate with one another. Its the body that heals itself not me. Patients come to me and are so grateful to be out of pain and its an amazing feeling to be able to help people get to a place where they are enjoying life. I worked hard to get where I am in life and in business and I would say to anyone that has imposter syndrome to take a step back and look at big picture. Everyone starts somewhere and even winners were beginners at one point or another.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a business owner, doctor of chiropractic, mother and wife. Most days I am all of these things! I have a passion for maternity and pediatric patients. This passion started after meeting a pregnant patient who was told she has to wait until she gives birth to be out of pain which broke my heart! How can health care professionals just have the “wait it out” mindset especially in the case of musculoskeletal discomfort during pregnancy?! Very similarly pediatric patients with torticollis and constipation as well as a list of other discomforts are given similar advice when it comes to their health care, “wait it out and it will go away eventually” which is just not the case. I am able to get these patients out of pain and enjoying life again in as little as one visit. Soon we will be expanding into Woodland Park as they don’t have any chiropractic specialists up there for pediatric and pregnancy so people are driving all the way to Colorado Springs for care so I am very excited to announce the expansion into the Teller County region.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my journey I have tried to add as much to my practice as possible to help patients in the most effective way and in the shortest amount of time. Patients don’t want to come see me for months before feeling better and I don’t want that for them either. By expanding my knowledge and techniques I have learned methods to help patients feel better faster. Dry Needling has been a game changer. This technique is much different from acupuncture which looks at chi points also known and blood flow points, dry needling targets trigger points allowing muscles to release. Sometimes a patient continues to be out of alignment because the muscles are pulling the skeleton out of place so being able to work muscle and skeleton has been great for helping patients. I have also started taking classes on herbalism to learn how to educate patients that are pregnant or are too young to take certain medications. Some herbs are safe and effective for certain conditions found specifically in pregnancy and pediatric patient. An example of this would be heartburn and leg cramps for my mommies. There are teas that help relieve these issues that are not what you find on the internet. Many women cannot stand ginger and the internet tells you “Ginger for all the things when pregnant!” and there are so many other better options. Last, I am educated in Webster Technique which again is very specific for maternity and pediatric. This technique is gentle and specific to help with nervous system function specifically in the pelvis and sacral region of the spine. I would say if you are pregnant you will definitely want to make sure you find a chiropractor who knows Webster because it will help so much with low back and hip pain in a way that is very safe for you and baby.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
In Colorado Springs you can throw a rock and hit a Chiropractic office! At Incline Chiropractic we pride ourselves on being different for the rest. We spend 15 minutes with every patients. We get to know them and their families. We celebrate when patients heal. I genuinely care about every patient that comes our doors so we don’t require patients to come in 3 times a week for a year in order to feel better. We understand that patients don’t fit into cookie cutter care plans and we make care specific to each patient. I have always wanted to do what was best for my patients knowing that the business would grow if you show people love and compassion instead of treating business like an assembly line. We are very different from other chiropractors in our area and we want to spread the word!
