Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Elsas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kelly , so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?
I think empathy has always been a big part of my soul. As far as I can remember, I’ve always deeply cared for the people in my life. I used to think it was a weakness and that I needed to focus on myself more. Now, I really love that part of myself. I think loving the people in our life is one of the most pure and beautiful parts of being a human being.
People, in general, are incredibly complex. There’s a lot of good people who make bad decisions and vice-versa. I’ve learned a lot about intention and developed a deeper sense of compassion for myself and others through this line of work.
For a lot of people, I think it’s as simple as just one person listening and understanding each other without judgement. It creates a huge impact. Sometimes, it just takes one person to understand and truly believe in you for your whole life to change. I’ve seen it a couple of times.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an actress based out of Los Angeles, California. I try to connect with the character itself and what the writer was looking to accomplish by creating her and telling her story. I’ve always felt art is a very soulful experience. There’s an energy to it that’s unmatched. When I’m not on-set, I love taking care of animals. I fostered a couple of dogs during Covid-19. I can’t say too much. But, I’m also preparing for a project set to start filming in July that I’m really excited about. I promise when I can share more details, you guys will be the first to know!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
- Let Go Of Expectations. I think sometimes we get so caught up in expectations, that we could miss what’s in front of us. In work, it’s important to fall in love with the process and trust the results will come when they’re meant to. Trust me, you still have to work really hard. In my personal life, make sure you’re falling in love with who that person is and not what you expect them to be. It creates a lot of pressure for the other person and ultimately could lead to disappointment. Also, find people that make you laugh. It sounds simple, but trust me. It’ll make a huge difference.
- Build a Healthy Relationship with Fear and Doubt.
Fear and doubt can create huge blocks toward your goals. But, the good news is that you have total control of how much you let it affect you. My trainer and I were actually talking about this earlier today. It was really insightful. Fear and doubt tend to be connected to past experiences. She said whenever fear or doubt comes into her life, she focuses on the future instead of the past. I thought it was brilliant and definitely looking to apply that mentality to my life. It creates an elevated sense of peace. - What’s Meant For You Will Find You
If you have to lie, manipulate or force a situation; it wasn’t yours in the first place. Sometimes, you have to let go of your initial plan for an even better situation to come in. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end. I promise it will all workout in time.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Definitely building my confidence.
