Meet Zaria Thornton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zaria Thornton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Zaria, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I’m an avid believer in what energy you put into the world, you get back. Realizing that hard times don’t last forever and that there’s always something to look forward to makes me so excited!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I started my handmade jewelry business Essential Paradise back in an October of 2022. It started as a creative outlet for me since I’ve always loved jewelry since I was a child. I wanted to focus more on handmade pieces to offer something new and refreshing to the jewelry market. Recently I’ve expanded to including some curated pieces to give more options to my customers! All of my jewelry is hypoallergenic as I have sensitive ears and can’t wear just anything. I’ve also have started doing events for my brand to get my name out there and I’ve been fairly successful.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My determination is one of the most impactful skills I have! Once I set my mind to something, it may take some time but I always get it done, and I get it done right. I also grew up as a computer “geek” and learned designing and creating in my teen years, that’s helped me to improve my brand and create a successful one.
Im an extremely fast learner- I’m self taught at so many things that I do with my business, while it may be overwhelming at times it’s very fulfilling. If I could give advice to anyone starting out, is to take everything one step at a time and don’t expect overnight success.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
As a jewelry creator, I’m always trying to make new designs, I believe my jewelry is one of a kind. I sell online and now pop-up events to build relationships with great people. My next step is to potentially sell wholesale to boutiques and get seen across the country!
