We recently connected with Brittany Plaven and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self esteem as a child, through sport. I was a figure skater, and the nature of the sport and my coaches helped facilitate these skills.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello! I own Aerial Cirque Over Denver. We are a circus and aerial arts studio in Denver. We teach both kids and adults aerial silks, trapeze, Lyra, sling and more. Our studio focuses on teaching inclusively and also prioritizes safety. We are currently the only aerial space in Denver safety recognized through ACEs (American circus educators) rigorous program. We offer teacher trainings and will begin retreats soon. We are proud to have also recently been selected as a Denver Legacy Business.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity Resilience
Empathy
My advice for folks entering the industry and wanting to foster these skills would be to ask questions and always consider yourself a student. Learning and the process it takes us on fosters all these skills.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My husband has always been my greatest support system. When I need someone to bounce ideas off of, help me with a project, or be a listening ear, he’s there.
